Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I'm told the rooster was a golden duckwing, so he had a silver and a gold gene. I wish the marans came in more colors...I'm getting tired of black. Time to get a splash or some blues!!!
Pretty rooster. I love the Duckwing, I've never gotten a Duckwing rooster, except from the one line Araucsna rooster that I bought, never got any offspring from him though and now he's give. Does your rooster have the feathered legs? That is one thing I'm trying to avoid getting into my NN, not that its really bad just don't want to deal with it You need to get eggs from me. This spring I should have a few Blues and Splashes. Have figure out yet the cockerels and pullets but this last hatch I got a bunch of them. Used a Blue Jersey Giant rooster.

Babies keep growing! Two and a half weeks now. Photos for your viewing pleasure (Tank is in the middle of the first picture.)

And just for fun, here is my new coop (currently housing three Cream Legbars - the left foreground is the old small coop where a young Cream Legbar cockerel is currently in quarantine). Any super friendly NN pullets that are small and sweet that I decide to keep as layers would go in here with the CLs. I will be building a second one of these (a bit bigger) for the Naked Neck flock's permanent home (need to decide on the site...)

Cute! That's a nice coop. Love it!

We performed the first candling on my NN + barnyard mix eggs last night. All but one egg turned out to be fertile (an Australorp mis), which means I'm probably going to have a much larger hatch than I'd planned on.

In the midst of installing one of the panels I'd just built for one of the outdoor runs my husband delicately asked me, "What are you going to do with all of these chickens?" What a silly question!

Non chicken people can ask the dumbest questions!

Haha just kidding.

My wife showed me a video this morning called ( can't remember exact title but something on the order of) "A Chicken Girls Rant". Really cute.

Cute chicks, Tank's getting big! NICE coop.. very impressed you used all hardware cloth.

Thanks! Well, yes, we have raccoons, skunks, possums, etc. I recently had my property fenced (8 ft fence) which should hopefully keep out coyotes and packs of dogs (though I suppose they can dig under), but raccoons have been around at night sometimes and I've seen the cats (not mine, but they think they own the place) scale the fence as well. Easier to go with the hard core option. Fortunately, I had some extra hardware cloth around (like, a lot) from an earlier aborted attempt at a PVC tractor (that turned out really badly and got dismantled). The whole she-bang will be encircled with electric fencing (soon - I need to set it up soon!). Next week I start the growout tractor...

They're ALL getting big, but yes, Tank is, well, a TANK. I think they'll be able to make it to next week's weighing (Weds.) before I switch out their leg bands (not snug yet). It's cute to see the little boys facing off in short "pecking order" type skirmishes. It's sort of like Lord of the Flies in there... That reminds me, next task is to figure out future back up rooster housing.

@BantamFan4Life

Nice looking chicks.
Are these from you flock or ordered from a hatchery?

If you are referring to the photo, I think you might mean me? (@BantamFan4Life was quoting me.) These are the chicks I got from Ideal. (All the New Hampshires ran and hid from me - cowards! The Naked Necks are so curious and friendly, they are easy to catch with the camera...

I know they're only 2.5 weeks so far, but I am SO pleased with these chicks...
