Fantastic looking beasts you got there! My brahma x NN is so cute too but unfortunately is a roo. He's starting to get rooish too, so I think this weekend he's going to go to freezer camp. I brought him to a swap but no one had any interest in NNs there. It was sad.

Those are HUGE chicks pgpoultry! I have bantam NN's and would love to let them hatch out some chicks! Yes, superchemicalgirl, the problem is always what to do with the roos....I am not yet at the point where I can process my own birds, although I keep saying that I could do it if I HAD to.....

My little hen is broody . . . I don't know if I'm going to be able to NOT let her raise a clutch . . . I mean, it would almost be cruel to NOT let her do it?

Here is my Mort.
He has been pretty ill. He had septic arthritis (not bumblefoot) and had a course of antibiotics, then the foot swelled again, then we found him in a pool of blood with the swelling opened up. I feared the worse....but the vet scraped out the cavity and he had more antibiotics He has now made a full recovery (and is a total sweetie, loves sitting on laps, brings himself into the house for treats etc.).

Mort's favourite girlfriend is the Brahma on the left sporting the bad hair do and saddle.

Thanks for the pictures ! He is so handsome. I just love to look at him. It is a shame about his illness, plus the cost of the treatment.

Our vet (though a farm vet) is pretty reasonable and only charged me for small animal consultations even though on the last occasion she spent 40 minutes treating him. The surgery seem to love him (though we are probably one of the very few in a farming community who would take a rooster along!). He sits patiently on my daughter's lap waiting for his consultation.
Most important thing is, he now is fully recovered.

Here's another pic of him sleeping behind a dog toy.

He's a very laid back bird who somehow manages to peacefully co-exist with 4 other boys, all much larger than him, and still manage to get to mate with a lot of the girls.
