Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Oh, this is brilliant, and I have access to pallets. I'm totally building this, especially as the primary threat is aerial predators (hawks and owls)...

I built 2 new coops with pallets I got for free. as I didn't have much room I made them with the hiding place underneath:

I put in each run an old tyre with sand for dust bathing. these coops are to separate young birds from the flock and later will be breeding coops.

I LOVE the idea of the old tire for dust bathing!!!! I'm trying that!!!!

at the beginning they didn't know what it was for but now they don't get out, lol.

Am I correct that that is a blurry pic of a blue and white pied muscovy hen/duck? She's lovely! (I'm jealous - but I have too much going on on the chicken front to get my muscovies right now.)

I love muscovies. Especially the ones with skin all over their faces and down the neck too... lol

it is my drake antonio. I have 9 11 week old baby ducks. but some of them are bigger than their mom, lol. here they are:

my muscovies are young. only antonio (daddy drake) has a lot of caruncle. I hope my 3 girls will get some more by aging. they are about 14 months old.

My favorite breed of water bird. I consider them somewhat more goose than duck but I really admire the Muscovy.

in greek we call them ΧΗΝΟΠΑΠΙΕΣ which means goose-ducks. but they are ducks and very quiet.

my muscovies are young. only antonio (daddy drake) has a lot of caruncle. I hope my 3 girls will get some more by aging. they are about 14 months old.

It's genetic and can be bred for or against. There are mnay people trying to breed for less skin, there are lines where the girls have just a little round patch around the eye. It's either due to not liking the bare skin, or being in very cold winter areas.

Also they can be bred for smoother or bumpier skin areas.

The ones with skin down the necks looking like turkeys are very rare, only seen them twice in person, it is not age related in these. Here's a couple examples:
