Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Phill98 I think it is funny that when you first posted about grandmom's chickens, you did not say that the pig pen was empty of pigs

In you excitement of having more birds to care for you just forgot that point. LOL

How are they doing ? Let us know if the rooster become adjusted to one another.

Kass How is Rudy tolerating Houdini ? That Picture of Houdini with his "outfit" reminds me of Starwar Chicken.

Fireant plus VERY NICE birds !

Well it is time for this thing thing they call Winter Holiday Season. Happy News News after
Merry Christmas if you are of that persuasion and in this country it is difficult to avoid. So those of you who are not interested please do not be offended.

HAPPY HOLIDAY AND ALL THAT STUFF ! Most of all stay warm and safe as we have that opportunity unlike those in refugee camps across Europe.

Oh it's not going well at all. Houdini's perfect comb is now scarred for life. As a temp. thing we have Houdini in an joining rabbit area that Rudy can see but not get to, and he is wearing out the ground pacing upset that he can even see Houdini. In this set up we have to carry Houdini out every morning and put him in the garage every night. If it gets colder we will have to have him kenneled in the house overnight since he is sleeping by himself w/o the added body heat of others.

There is one thing weird in this whole situation. Coop where they sleept is sprinkled with blood and it seem like there is lot of it but I didn't see that many injuries except on rooster's leg and two hens head and I spent whole day out with them. I went in only for lunch.

The biggest problem was top hen from my flock. She fought with every single chicken from other flock. Her head is a mess. I don't know if I should do something with it but I just don't know how and what. All the bad things happened in the morning.

Later this day, two hens from grandma's flock gave me eggs and also they went to coop all by themselves.

Oh and we still don't know if they will stay with us but there is 99.99% chance they are. I will take pictures(and lot of them) because I think that I might have some mottle carriers and I will need to make decisions on who will not be culled because we can't have 20 chickens. It's too much.

Oh and I already made friends with one hen. Not Nn but sweet, beautiful and huge!

LOL! I remember when I thought 20 chickens were just too much.

I'm really, really glad to hear that, overall, everything is going well with the merger of your two flocks. I hope your human family is doing just as well.

Roosters didn't adjust to each other. Most of the day it was ok, but in the morning and evening my rooster was running other boy quite a bit. One part of a day little rooster spent on shelter roof that we built for shade and cover. His leg is bleeding a bit but I don't know what exactly is with it because he is scared to death and didn't get used to me.

Oh and I got one girl that looks just like one of yours. It's the one that was supposed to be BLRNN, but she doesn't look like that. I don't know how to call it. I also have another hen that looks similar, but no nn.

Thanks! Grandma is very good now, not 100% but getting there.

And one more question.. I would like to free-range these two flock in a day or two. Not tomorrow, day or two after since my run is overcrowded right now and I feel sorry for them but I don't know if that is a good idea..

In my experience, the more room they have to spread out, the fewer fights there are and the more time they have to get to know each other. They're not that different from people in that way....sometimes it's more comfortable to observe from a distance for a while before walking up to say "hello".

And....if your grandma's cockerel is able to keep more distance between himself and the other rooster, there may fewer injuries.

Well, I did the 12-week weigh-in of my "Fast Five" NN flock that was raised by one of my broody hens. (Actually, I was a few days late getting to this, but life's busy.

Of the two boys, Zazzle is the clear winner over Jagger, coming in at 57.11 ounces vs 47.37 ounces. His body is nice and heavy, meaty thighs and breast, and a nice wide back that, unfortunately, doesn't really show well in this photo.

Zazzle:

Jagger:

My three girls are also doing really well, with the fully feathered pullet coming in the lightest....ironic to me since she has the most "feather weight".

Penny: 38.73 ounces

Rizzo: 41.27 ounces

Reba: 42.54 ounces

Lovely birds!!!! I love Zazzle's barring. And I especially like the look Reba is giving the camera...

I am afraid that they wouldn't come bavk to coop. Even though, they came to coop this evening by themselves. I will keep them in run tomorrow whole day and then I will let zhem freerange few hours before sleep the next day.

It would be great if things would work out just like in your place where everybody is good and knows it's place.

Edit: love the chicks, and love Jagger's coloring. If I remember right, you have another
older rooster that looks similar to him!?
