Naked Neck/Turken Thread

In the category of interesting crows - Snape (my big NN cockerel) has been refining his crow, and sometimes gets into crowing "conversations" with Dumbledore. This afternoon, it became clear that he has quite the lung capacity with amazing ability to sustain a note for a LONG time. I think he's practicing for a career as a football/soccer announcer, as in "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!!"

That, or he wants to be an opera singer...

I love when they learn to crow! I haven't heard my little kazoo competitors in a couple days, but I know it's just a matter of time.

One of my mature NN roosters, Shiloh, to this day sounds like he's shouting in agony whenever he crows. Worst crow ever! I'm always surprised that the girls don't run and hide from him.

congrats!

do roos mate with all the hens which stay with him? I can see my roos with the same hens and I think they don't mate with all of them. for some unknown reason they didn't accept new pullets nor try to mate with them. they (roos) scare them away all the time.

Not always. I've got a few boys who are determined to mate with every single girl on my property, and I've got some that quite particular about which girls they want.

Right now I feel very sorry for one of my White Rock girls, Daisy. She can't walk by a rooster or cockerel without them trying to mount her. So far she's a favorite of at least three of my cockerels. I need to put a saddle on her soon before they start tearing up her flesh. Poor girl.

this is my roo's favourite:

fortunately they end up in quarrel and she runs away, lol.

btw my NN girls woke up and seem to be ok. the sick one is sneezeng but not coughing any more. she looks more active. I think it is good that she has company at least at night.

congrats!

I think DesertChick pretty well covered it.

I have roosters that will mount anything. I've had rooster in the past that had their favorites.

There have been times when new hens go into the run that the rooster chances them away for awhile but gradually accepts them. I've also taken the favorite out for awhile then he will accept the newer ones easier.

thank you.

I think 1 of my roos has a good taste and another one is handsome but stupid, lol.

Yesterday we culled little rooster. If we didn't do it, he would die because my rooster didn't allow him to stay in the coop, and it's snow outside. It's peace and quiet right now in the coop.

The other thing is, we decided to keep all chickens, 17 of them + one roo. I don't want all of them, but on the other hand, I don't have to worry about who is going to stay and who's not.

Congrats on settling your situation - I'm so glad it all worked out ok!

I'm sure this has been asked before but if I cross my turken hen with a fully feathered rooster, what are the chances of a naked neck chick?
