Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Kass nice babies who are lucky to have a nice mom. What was I thinking when I was using an incubator ? Having broody hens is so much fun.

And as per the comment on mating a small hen with a large rooster, it all depends on the hen and her acceptance. My tiny Serama/NN accepts any rooster that is not too mean in order to have a chance to reproduce. It is funny to see her mounted by a huge roo but she just fluffs up and goes about her business.

Greetings-

I am new to the naked neck family! I traded hatching eggs for the New Years Hatch-a-long and my first two to hatch are naked necks! I am still waiting on a few, but it looks like the naked neck Roo was the dominant male - the moms are all different breeds (not naked necks)...

Hoping the birds have a friendly/non-aggressive temperament and enjoy free-ranging (who doesn't?)

Welcome to the naked world.

Hello guys, how are you today?

This morning I woke up to see this
400

Chickens are doing great, they don't fight anymore and they free ranged whole days for about a week now. They also started laying again.

I have two pics of two chickens that we decided are keepers:

400

This one is huge. She lays big eggs and is very, very calm. I love her.

@flowerthis is that hen I was talking about. Aren't they similar? She is big, very good girl and exceptional broody. She also gets broody early in the year, usually around March.

Oh and I wish everyone happy new year, lots and lots of chicks, great layers and beautiful, big birds!

nice birds. I wish I had a black NN.

I think mine wouldn't survive snow, lol. only 1 night we had -1 c and I have a few sick birds, 2 NNs, a brahma mix roo and 1 red sex link. 1 NN pullet is coughing blood. I put some hot pepper in her water and some honey as well and she is better now. within 24 hours the mucus is pinkish, I don't see blood any more. thank god I read somewhere that hot pepper stops bleeding.
