I thought they were ugly, DH has always thought they were cool. Now after adding them to the flock, I see their beauty. They are a pleasure to care for and the colors are lovely. They are kind of like EEs, with so much crossing of breeds, but still retaining the defining characteristics there is always a surprise in every egg. Your girl may not have one wattle, but rather has a dewlap. NN can have be wattle free (unlikely), have wattles of any size, have a dewlap, or when an EE cross have a beard. But if you were working on a show bird, then the standard is a single comb with 5 regular points, medium sized wattles and earlobes of the same length if I recall correctly. Getting the Standards expanded or changed takes real effort.
When looking for SOP for NN, I found this article http://breedsavers.blogspot.com/2011/05/naked-necks-chickens-that-looks-like.html It is quite interesting, with the history of the breed. I had never considered the impact of the WWI and WWII on the breed. It was also interesting to see the difference in the national standards. The article also gave a definition for the Label Rouge standards. Lots of pictures of the variations. The Gold Cuckoo is pretty, I like it better than the normal black.
