Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Mr Chic looks like twin brother of my cockerel who is the father of my chicks (on the above pics). their moms are both white.

Yes, they certainly do look very similar!

Are the first two from millie fleur/naked neck cross? Beautiful.

Thanks. No, they are both 100% NN. That photo was taken a couple of months ago, so they were still young than, and have grown a lot since than.
That would be an interesting cross though!

I thought that because they have some black and white markings and, well, your user name is mymilliefleur

at the moment I have a sick roo in the house. what do you say about crowing from 3 am just a few steps from the bed?!

Oh, yeah, I've got Dumbledore in the house as well (recovering from dog attack). I am fortunate that he doesn't crow at night (though he clucks and complains about Doctor Who in the evenings if it's too loud and keeps him awake in the next room).

But yes, it is SUPER loud when they crow indoors, and I am AWAKE at 6AM, whether I want to be or not. How's that for an alarm clock?!

*Chuckle* I used to put the selected "cockerel to be culled in the morning" in a dog crate in our attached garage the night before the deed was to be done. Then one night my husband slept out on the couch (it's sometime more comfortable for his bad back) and told me that dang rooster crowed every hour during the night. By the time I got up at 6:00 a.m. my hubby was up and ready to ax that sucker himself.

all of my roos crow almost all night. this one in the house (a brahma cross) starts first even if he is in the coop, than my marans cockerel replies, my araucana cockerel joins, than my avatar roo gets angry and crows very loud and the last ones are my other brahma cross and NN cockerel. and again, again, again... I wonder that my neighbors didn't sue me, lol.

btw, 1 of my NN chicks definitively looks like another cockerel

I have a question for @Kassaundra and anyone else who has scsc chickens ( I know that there is somebody else, but I can't remember who)

Will scsc hens try to go broody?!? ( I guess they will, especially from a flock that has a lot of broodies- like you have), but would that work?!?

I saw a picture of Q-tip with a naked chick and thought of it

I haven't had a girl scsc long enough to know if she will go broody, Phyllis hasn't even started laying yet. Precious (kev's girl) laid later then most I believe, but he never said she went broody so don't believe she ever did either. I would imagine since it is hormonal it is possible for her to go broody, she would only be able to cover a few eggs at most and I doubt she could adequately keep chicks warm w/o wing feathers.
