Naked Neck/Turken Thread

They're lovely! And I love the names.

Anybody have pictures of ideal poultry naked necks? Roos and hens?

Mine are from Ideal - I love them! Got a real variety - some really nice big sized, some smaller, with variety of colors (though no white).

Here's a recent photo of the primary flock cockerel, Severus Snape, at about 20 weeks. He actually has a rose comb, the rest have expected straight combs. He's HUGE.

Thanks for posting! I'm getting mine from Ideal too. What color eggs are you getting from your NNs?

Not laying yet - should be doing so in a month or so if not sooner (they're 20 weeks). I hear they lay well. I have enough chickens that even with poor layers I'll be buried in eggs in no time... Making my list of folks who want eggs, and am going to try to arrange to barter for raw cow milk...

Snape and Mystique are special!

Not that I'm aware - he came as a chick from a local large hatchery (Ideal Poultry). Given his appearance and comb, I'm sure he's a cross of something, just no idea what...

I'm thinking Wyandotte since they are a very common LF/dual purpose breed with a rose comb.

His color is very typical of a colored crossed with a black, or a colored bred with a bird just like him. A gold laced crossed with a black would produce this same color... so would a RIR bred with a black and so on.

If he really is product of a laced wyandotte cross, you should start to see spangling, half moons, maybe some fairly decent laces, various patternings etc on the offpsring out of him and the buff hens and Mystique. The other half would be blacks, with most of the males turning out much like him in color and the females either solid black or mostly black with some patterning. That's still very much a total guess as his background is a mystery... could be 2nd generation down from the original cross and possibly losing the various genes for lacing(result would be much less variation in patterning- most would be basic black tail buff/reds) and even could be pure for his black color resulting in all black chicks....

Thanks - that's delightful news - I'd love some spangling and interesting patterns!!!! Mystique is the second largest pullet, so between him and her, the babies would be big as well. (Largest pullet is Trinity, totally black with black face and legs.)
