Okay, now I'm feeling lucky. I've got a one year old NN rooster that weighs over 11 pounds, and a Bielefelder cockerel that ways over 11.5 pounds....and one Biel pullet that weighs 7.4 lbs. Guess who's going into my meat breeding program?![]()

White eggs are what the stores sell in the US... some people won't eat the brown/tan eggs because of this.. they think eggs are supposed to be white so there has to be something wrong or "dirty" about the brown eggs lol And then there are some who think the browns are organic or healthier...
Here you can't find white eggs in stores. Just brown ones. Actually people thonk that white eggs aren't as nutritious as brown ones and don't put lighter eggs under the broodies because they think they have thin shell that would broke under them
The SS are quite small, and only recently have they been big enough/old enough for me to consider it (he's 6 weeks older and fairly big, and was a bit of a jerk with the NN girls before being removed). I don't want them to get hurt. Also, I need to build a tractor home to put them together in. This weekend, I hope...I have one escape artist and the ones that escape in less smart way. One of my Nn girls walks on vertical fence/wire. I have never seen something like that until this Monday. She does it with sucjh an elegance and effortless. Others just jump and fly over two meters high fence.
And @Fire Ant Farm story about Tank and SS is great. So, why don't you let them be together? Sorry for the loss and hope that you get lot of chicks. When should they hatch?
At least Paula isn't suffering. It's so hard to tell with our animals when they're unwell. They simply don't whimper and complain as much as we humans do. I'm so sorry for your loss.![]()
But.....Here's to hoping for an outstanding hatch! Aloha chickens are so cool! Since the woman who started the breed lives just one town north of me I've seriously been thinking about adding them to my flock too. My huge...ever growing...I wonder if I can handle a couple more dozen chickens flock.![]()
Thanks for the kind thoughts - it was a drag to lose her, as she was a real character.Ant- sorry about Paula....
How's the hatch going?
Seems Aloha NN are gaining popularity..? I do think they are very beautiful.

I've got Jersey giant blood in 5 of my hens/pullets. I was hoping for more but that hatch had a great number if cockerels, that I didn't need right now. One of the pullets isn't showing the size though. I'm going to try for a cockerel from a one on one mating to increase size on her and her produce.
On a better note: out of all the hens ( not counting the young pullets that just started laying) I've gathered 23 eggs from16 hens this week from Tuesday thru today. I'm not sure if it's because of the new 22% protein feed ( been feeding it now for month) or if it is because spring is in the air.
My Mottled Partridge hen had finally started main g again yesterday along with the older Silver hen. Glad to know that they haven't given up in laying yet, they are almost 4 years old.
I've culled done cockerels from the January hatch and I'm think I'm down to 10 or 11 pullets and two cockerels, from the crossbreds. One of the cockerels is white but has a ( looks like it) pea comb. I only saved him ( he is a Leghorn cross not sure what kind if rooster) back to see him grown and maybe put him with pea combed hens. I still have 8 from the NN run.
From my February 2 hatch I still have 11 chicks.
My pullets are 4-5 pounds, and the very biggest boys are 6-7 and then Snape is almost 8. Not bad, but seems like we both have work to do.I should try weighing the hatchery NN turkens.. I'd be surprised if any of the pullets weigh more than 4-5 pounds and the roo looks about 6 pounds. They look small..
Yes!!! Breed! you have a 11 pound NN roo? Where did he come from? Pic please?
Personally I would be getting all the wanted chicks from the Biel roo soon, in case he does not make it through the summer. You don;t get as hot as I do but... I would not worry much about the NN's heat tolerance. How are you thinking to breed them?

p.s. I didn't comment but I am loving the colors on your biel crosses.
Yuuuuuuuuuuup!!!!!!Thanks for the compliment. I'm loving how those crosses are looking too. They're a little crazy, but I like that.![]()
I don't have a recent picture of Shiloh, my big NN rooster, but here's one from last summer when he was weighing in around 9 lbs.

His back is nice and wide and his body feels like solid muscle. I'm so anxious to breed him, but so short on space right now. I'm still processing all of those cockerels from my last hatch...only about 2 per week...and then need to change up the housing arrangement of most of my birds before I can proceed with breeding programs. Every time I think I have enough pens/coops....I somehow wind up with more birds than space.![]()
