Naked Neck/Turken Thread

my fatherinlaw talks about his grandpa putting eggs in a box with a desklamp over them and hatched hundreds that way, not sure of the details, but might be worth a try

Hi! I had a broody Australorp, couldn't get her to get out of the nest box even though it was empty and I'd toss her out about 4-5 times a day. Just for the fun of it I decide to let her hatch out one NN/NN egg (black hen, lavender roo) and a NN/EE. I honestly didn't think they were fertile!! Then I had an EE lay more eggs in the box without my knowing it!! Believe me, if I had wanted to set 6-8 eggs I would have set the NN pair's eggs.

I'll take pics of the chicks in a day or so. Maybe I'll see if I can get another Australorp to sit on the eggs. All my Aussie's tend to be broody.

Anyone have NNs that are COMPLETELY feathered on their necks? I have 2 ten week old chix
that ain't naked. One is a rooster. He just started trying to crow yesterday AM. He sounds terrible, but
I know he will get it right in a couple of weeks.

I have a neighbor up the road who is a big joker. He has a bunch of giants. When the chix hatched with feathers
on their necks at first I thought he was jacking with me and threw a couple of eggs in my collection stash just to make me crazy!
Once the guy left a big buck goat on my road, that made it kind of a challenge to get to work, so I don't know what to expect.

However, I know Momma and Daddy are NNs because I kept count when I put the eggs in the incubator.

Dad is black/yellow splash. Moms are buff. Weird thing is both chix are buff with a few black tail feathers just like Mom.
Beaks and butts are pure NN.

Comments anyone? I hope so.

Hey Jelly, I ordered a dozen eggs from a breeder and a few that hatched with feathered necks. If each parent is has only one copy of the gene (Nn) then a certain percent will be with feathers. It might be half with and half without but that is a guess. If Kev ever gets back on line he will post the correct information.

You can tell if a bird has one or two copies of the NN gene by the amount of feathers on the neck. Almost not feathers means that the bird has two copies. If I rmember correctly, your birds have a fair amount of feathers so most likely each bird has only one copy.

I should have put more NN's under the broody. If I had known you wanted some flower I would have.
I'd like to maybe try for some white NN's. Hopefully these two chicks will be pullets!! What are my chances??

OOOOh That lavender is stunning and looks to be NN. I have two bantam pullets who are full of personality running around with a bantam black Ameraucana pullet but no male. Also one very pretty full size pullet who should be laying soon. I will be getting a White Ameraucana Cockerel originally from NoseyChickens but now owner by a no rooster person. So I might have some whiteEE/NN ? Who knows.

Chances ? you know it ususally 50/50 or something. No way to tell at this very early stage. They call it crap shoot !

The white chick is from my LF white EE hen and my bantam lav. roo. If I bred this pullet (say it's a pullet for now) back to the lav. roo wouldn't I have a white or lav. 1/2 NN?

Or would I just have a mess??!

Ok now I understand. Yes you would have some white and at least 25% would not have Nn. Where is Kev ?

I am new to the naked neck craz, but have really enjoyed them. They have the run of the place. Lots of enjoyment just setting watching them chase grasshoppers.

Do you have a picture of a Madagascar Game Adult ? And as a matter fact do you have additional information and where did you find it ?
