Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Yea leakage is a big problem.  You mentioned white and white jersey giants- breeding back to the giants will help a *lot* with solid blacks and whites.  It will show up in a fair number but it would still be less number than using that cockerel with other black NN.

I never thought of that about adding hens from the Jersey Giants. I may be able to get hold of a blue which would work in getting blues and blacks -anyway.

Yeah, the giants already have and are pure for all the necessary genes to turn them solid colored. Breeding back to them is basically an aid to bring in all of them into your lines and reaching the solid color goal faster.

Any of the Giant whites, blacks or blues will work.

If there is a black you like quite a lot more than the other colored Giants, do not be afraid to use it even for the whites. Clean black will help with getting crisp clean whites down the road.

Hi everyone. .....

Been having a difficult time in my search.......looking for some Bantam Turkens....white, blue, splash. I am in Northern Virginia.

Any help in the right direction is greatly appreciated!

I don't know if this is your cup of tea, but I have seen hatching eggs for NN bantams periodically on eBay.

Thanks DesertChic......I may have to go that route unfortunately. I only say that because the two times I bought hatching eggs; I have have no luck....either infertile....detached cells or small blood rings....no development. Ugh

Yeah it can be sort of hit n miss with shipped eggs. Generally the closer the seller is, the better. Same with if the seller bubble wrap the eggs individually and double boxes.

Are you looking for standard type bantam NN or NN mixes in black/blue splash? The former can be pretty hard to find.. have seen advertisements for them.. unfortunately cannot remember where, might try searching in the egg selling section on byc? The mixes, especially with silkies/showgirls/sizzles are more common/easier to find- if you want those, maybe search terms like NN sizzle, etc might give more hits?

Actually looking for bantam NNs. I have Silkies and Showgirls. Would like NNs in either white, blue, or any color other than red, or buff.

Culled another 8 cockerels this afternoons. I'll have to admit I don't think witching eggs work. 'Cause I didn't even set that many that were supposed to be cockerels.

Another thing many of the best spotted/mottled ones Ones.are always the roosters. Ugh, cockerels.
