Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Day 22 of my hatch is coming to a close. Out of 22 eggs that made it to lockdown (though one was very suspect), 17 have hatched and the vast majority of those are NN. One thing I hadn't really considered when I set up the breeding pens was the fact that so many of the chicks would look alike. Whoops! Good thing I had enough colored rubber bands. I got the first batch of them photographed, but the rest of them are still drying out. Here are some of my favorite shots:

Chick 1 from Pepper and Gypsy. (Still one of my favorites.)

Chick 2 from Faye & Zazzle:

Chick 3 from Rue & Zazzle. I really had expected this one to be black since Rue is black. ???

Chick 4 from Gypsy and maybe Peta instead of Pepper since it's more red. (Fully feathered.)

Chick 5 from Bubbles & Monty (fully feathered as expected). I'm really hoping this one will be a pullet since Andres is a cockerel and the other egg I tried to hatch from this pairing fizzled.

Chick 6 from Senna & Zazzle:

And Chick 7 from Ivy & Zazzle. This one surprised me too, because Ivy is black barred (Bielefelder/Australorp mix) and Zazzle is buff barred. I expected a darker chick rather than one with so much red in the feathering. It's sibling is black with spots of buff.

I love them ALL!!!!!

This is still the only recent NN baby photo I have to share:

Standard note that, this late in the thread, I have NOT read all the posts. I like reading and all, but...there's a certain point I just can't bring myself to do it LOL

Since this thread has been hoppin' for a number of years, is there anyone out there with a jubilee pen? I'd love to get some hatching eggs :) In the meantime, I have about 10 days or so to find out if three eggs I collected from someone local will have NN babies or not :)

Thanks for tagging me. I just happened to see it though. The phone is acting up very bad and I'm not getting my e-mails correctly.

@lpyrbbySo right now I'm not getting very many eggs from the Aloha (Jubilee) hens yet. Plus it being winter time in Arkansas.
This generation though probably won't have many or any mottling at all but they should be Mottled carriers.

I may have some available in the spring though.

Really excited today. I have a brand new layer. ............................yes a new green egg layer.

She's not a NN though. Her mother was but her daddy was a Polish. That is if it's the one I think it is that is laying. I have her ( she's crested) with a rooster that came from a green egg. So May I'll get some crested NN green egg layers.

Thanks :) I'll be around, I'm sure. I want to get a couple of local hatches under my belt before I start bringing in eggs from elsewhere, so I can at least be semi-sure that the low hatch rate wasn't my contribution LOL

That would be awesome! I have hopes to try blending Brabanter and naked neck, at least for a crested NN. Man, it'll get weird if I try to bring egg colors into that cross...but if I wind up having the time...hmm

@alohachickens was working on aloha Naked Necks last year, and I got eggs from her as part of a "test ship". They were really so lovely. I don't have them anymore (it's a very sad, sad, sad story - they were raised with some chicks who in retrospect had congenital avian leukosis, and so I had to cull them, makes me want to cry even now). But you might reach out to her since draye doesn't have any eggs for you now - she also had a neighbor with NNs who had some alohas as well.
