Quote: Yeah, no sign of any of them. Lots of Goodwin's feathers all over in trails across the yard (chasing or being carried). No sign of the girls, though some feathers from the blue copper marans. If they're hiding, they haven't come out and I can't find them. And I just finished catching Puppy, who is apparently intent of winning the exact same Darwin award. I would be excessively upset to lose Puppy.

So sorry for your loss!!!! So I was looking at feed today, what would I be feeding a meat pen of NNs. I feel like broiler feed would be a bad choice unless I was to eat them, and also for a market trio do you do pullets or cockerels

It is so exhausting, energy draining frustration and sadness when this happens.
Feathers all over the place as if there were a pillow fight, usually are dogs. They tear up and shake until the bird is dead then move on to the next one and repeat. But if the two stay missing without very much feathers from these.. it's something else... fox or bobcat especially if the three weren't prone to flying out of the paddock & some feathers were inside... could be whatever it was jumped the fence and carried them out.

By feather patterns, I think fox. Similar to the fox that got to Switch before I chased it off of her. Could have been a big and strong house cat, I suppose (LOTS of those creeping in and out of my yard). Goodwin wasn't bantam, but also wasn't huge, and there were onsie twosie feathers strewn in lines or small piles, indicating sort of a chase-and-pluck, with a nook in some fallen branches where there was a bigger pile. Basically evidence of a fight that ranged all across the yard. I'm thinking the body was dragged into a den or something. I can't be here all there time, but I hate that I wasn't here for this.

Well, I tend to watch binge watch a season or two at a time, so it was possible I had missed something...
More extensive search revealed Goodwin's foot, so he's gone. No sign of the pullets. Sad day.
Now I need to get Monkey into that coop as their cockerel (he was back up - splash copper marans). If I can make headway on the big coop for them soon enough, I might try just moving them all into the new coop at the same time...
10 swimmers among the 12 Tank x GNH eggs I set at 10 days!
- part of keeping chickens, but it stinks. I think part of it is also just the frustration that it happened while I was away, but at the very same time I was on a plane heading back...
Can't remember if I said it here, but I also threw in six of the eggs form the marans girls who were with Goodwin. I threw them in on a lark, but am sort of glad I did - I have at least two developing (very dark eggs, hard to see into them) - they'll be home grown olive eggers - black (because cross of Goodwin with Blue and black copper marans girls). Here's hoping I get some pullets...
