Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Quote: He was 4 weeks old here. He's smaller than the NN x GNH crosses, but they're, well, less intimidating looking.

Well, I just got the email with the tracking number from the hatchery. I'll be meeting my first NN very soon

My S&G NNs are SUPPOSED to be shipped this week - hoping they arrive Friday or Saturday.

I gave the S&G thing some consideration but I don't have the nerve to further bind myself on top of what I already carry. However I do have great admiration for Ant Farm for taking the plunge and I can only wish for her total success.

X2. I had already been on the path with the cx-nn crosses by the time these birds were 'more' available. I was thinking if they ended up with similar results as the SG birds, well.... but open to replacing them if the SG perform a lot better. Came extremely close to ordering a couple times though!

What color do you guys think this little girl is going to be

Probably black. Many blacks start out with some white on the flight feathers.. these eventually get molted out black later. also it is common for black NN to end up with brown details but solid black is possible, especially if a hen. If it feathers out in a penguin pattern- lots of white feathers on chest, could be mottle. Kinda hoping it's a mottle for you but doubt it..

Quote: And I am delighted so far with my NNxGNH "home" cross. But I'm giving the S&Gs a go, and will get data for myself and everyone else. I figure at a minimum I might get some nice sized NN pullets out of it.

I got the 7 week weights today for the Tank x GNH group. They are really quite ready to move outside, hope to do so this weekend. I'm really wiped out with lots of crazy work stuff, but here's the graph. I took photos, but they were squirmy and I didn't take the time to do many repeated shots, so I don't know how many are actually usable. I'll take a look at them later.

- Ant Farm

Sorry - it posted before the graph was ready. Of note, see the line that is dipping? That's chick #5. They all looked fine to me, but I'm going to need to go check on him tomorrow to see if there's anything wrong. (I'm not planning to keep him, but certainly want to be aware of any illness or injury in the meanwhile). Another valuable aspect to getting weights (which is admittedly a lot of work).

(to clarify - I didn't get weights week 1, so that's artificially been set as "0" for all chicks - I don't like to band them and bother them until they are 2 weeks)

It would also be good for things like comparing carcass quality, general feed conversion etc.

Did not have time to weigh the cx nn last sat... keeping missing the usual weight dates y'all do... drats.

We're renting right now, and these chicks will bring us to the limit our landlord set for us. We are trying to buy a house, though, so if that goes well we'll be able to get more.

good luck with the house!

I have decided to sell my house in order to buy land and build another one so that I can keep as many chickens as I wish. at the moment I can keep 49. I already have almost 40 and it seems 2 hens are getting broody.
