Naked Neck/Turken Thread

All the posted chicks look great. Love seeing all those chicks.

I don't have as much timer anymore to take too many pictures just a snap or three here and there of neat unual colored ines.

I'm planning on playing around with fibromelanism (via Svart Hona's) and crossing them to Naked Necks, and with my choice F1's, I would then be breeding in lacing as well. My main question is, what breed should I use for introducing the lacing? I plan on them being dual purpose, although I'm focusing slightly more on eggs. I figured my choices are between the silver laced Wyandotte and the silver laced Orpington. My main concern is keeping up the body size (and egg production), if I have to pay more for the Orps in order to get that, I can do it. But, depending on which breeder they're from, they can be pretty similar in weight.

Svart Hona's are small/mid-size, so I'm not sure how much I should expect to have to build them back up (it depends on the specific flock of SH you're breeding from too, I've seen anything from 3-7lbs so I might just have to wait)?

Anyways, this is a project for my own amusement and I live in a farming area so any culls are pretty easy to get rid of (and we've got lots of cats to feed lol), I'm not worried about it being perfect and I'm not aiming for 10lbs dressed or anything. Having said that, if anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.

Lacing has been one of my favorite looks. But then, I'm not very picky, so I don't think you could go by my opinion... :p
Have you checked out these guys?

They have laced Brahmas, too, if ya wanna go real big.

Yeah I have!
I admit I'll probably try for a fibromelanistic brahma at some point using one of my dark brahma's. For sh*ts and giggles as you do. Other than that I am keeping them far away from the fibro NN line as the feathered shanks are a boogers to get rid of apparently. That and I want to be able to clean them (foot fluff) as weather requires and I only want to do that for a few birds. Imagine having to do 30+

I have a pair of english orpingtons and I love them but I don't think those fluffy butts would look nice with naked necks. I would prefer wyandotte as they are dual purpose birds, good layers and get broody. sounds like all in one.

Daniel's Silver Laced Orpingtons are larger than the Brahma, they're the original imports from Ewe Crazy.

Good to know! The body weight-fluff ratio varies a lot between.. lines? Idk, specific breeding groups. My Brahma's are only 4 weeks so I'm sure they'll fill out more to a certain extent, but they really are in large part just fluff. If you happen to know of some silver laced Wyandottes that are excellent layers, please let me know. I would rather use lines that have already been bred for production.

Kind of what I'm thinking, they're just a little too... round to look good with the little toothpick necks :)

I disagree. One of my prettiest hens was a NN + something fluffy mix. Sadly I lost her this past week.
