I'm planning on playing around with fibromelanism (via Svart Hona's) and crossing them to Naked Necks, and with my choice F1's, I would then be breeding in lacing as well. My main question is, what breed should I use for introducing the lacing? I plan on them being dual purpose, although I'm focusing slightly more on eggs. I figured my choices are between the silver laced Wyandotte and the silver laced Orpington. My main concern is keeping up the body size (and egg production), if I have to pay more for the Orps in order to get that, I can do it. But, depending on which breeder they're from, they can be pretty similar in weight.
Svart Hona's are small/mid-size, so I'm not sure how much I should expect to have to build them back up (it depends on the specific flock of SH you're breeding from too, I've seen anything from 3-7lbs so I might just have to wait)?
Anyways, this is a project for my own amusement and I live in a farming area so any culls are pretty easy to get rid of (and we've got lots of cats to feed lol), I'm not worried about it being perfect and I'm not aiming for 10lbs dressed or anything. Having said that, if anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
Lacing has been one of my favorite looks. But then, I'm not very picky, so I don't think you could go by my opinion...![]()
Have you checked out these guys?

I have a pair of english orpingtons and I love them but I don't think those fluffy butts would look nice with naked necks. I would prefer wyandotte as they are dual purpose birds, good layers and get broody. sounds like all in one.I'm planning on playing around with fibromelanism (via Svart Hona's) and crossing them to Naked Necks, and with my choice F1's, I would then be breeding in lacing as well. Daniel's Silver Laced Orpingtons are larger than the Brahma, they're the original imports from Ewe Crazy.

Kind of what I'm thinking, they're just a little too... round to look good with the little toothpick necks![]()
