Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Thank you! If you're in need of broody hens, I've got two Dorking-mix hens, sisters, that frequently go broody that I would be willing to sell to you. If you're interested in them, PM me and I can supply you with all of their details - age, POL, egg size and laying frequency, and how often they went broody last year and when. One of them was already broody this year. She really wants to be a mama!

I really appreciate the offer. My chicks had bronchitis, I think, from a chick I got from a feed store. I read I should wait at least a year before introducing new flock members now.

They haven't been sick in the coop but I really don't want to make any new chickens sick.

Do you know if this is true?

Infectious Bronchitis remains active on premises for up to four weeks. If you currently have birds that may be carriers, you either want to keep a closed flock or bring in birds vaccinated for IB. The vaccination isn't effective immediately, so new birds will have to be kept elsewhere for about two weeks for the vaccine to take effect.

It's been more than 4 weeks since any chick was sick. So we should be safe there. I read the chickens can be carriers for up to a year though.

Ok Christine, here are the last two that were in the bator when I took the other photos. Reba's baby is NOT black. It's soo cute..love the coloring. And Dolly looks a lot like one of Fezz eggs. This is the one I said had a blue stripe down the back.

Reba on left..Dolly on right

Reba is going to have some coloring in her wings.

Dolly egg baby has the brown face, with some blue going on!

Going to be interesting to see how this one turns out. I have one from the other hatch that has this color of red to it too. Also the blue in it. But the face isn't brown, it's red. Easy to tell them apart. This face is unique isn't it? Both of the reddish/blue babies are going to be pretty.

I'm really surprised by Dolly's offspring. And all of her offspring have had yellow legs. Is it a NN or fully feathered? I can't tell from the photo.

I only had one chick hatch out with similar coloring, but it come from Peta and one of my Dorking-mixes:

Notice the five toes on the little guy above? Storm, my Dorking-mix mother, was white dominant with unique black lacing splashed throughout her feathers. That combo makes sense. I'm wondering if Dolly had somehow retained some of Peta's DNA from when they roamed free together. They'd been separated for a couple weeks so I didn't think it would be possible, but seeing the similarity in coloring makes me wonder.

Reba's chick may feather out to be more red than buff and will definitely carry the blue egg gene since both Reba and Monty carried it. Reba lays the greenest egg in my flock. Reba and Monty gave me the following two chicks:

I have one chick with this coloring coming in. Any input? Part of me feels like it's blue. The other part of me thinks it's just fun and games going on in my head

I'm waiting for an adult pic from the lady I got the eggs from, since she's hatched her own and is a bit more familiar with what her yard produces :)

Do splash chicks start out like that?

Hmmm...I thought splash started out like dark tops, light bottoms? I don't know enough about the secrets of chick down to make any kind of educated guess

I hope this one is a girl (probably not though) as it's the only chick like it. I am only going to keep a couple of the boys, tops. I am suspicious of some of the darker coloration in the wings there.
