Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Hmmm...I thought splash started out like dark tops, light bottoms? I don't know enough about the secrets of chick down to make any kind of educated guess

I hope this one is a girl (probably not though) as it's the only chick like it. I am only going to keep a couple of the boys, tops. I am suspicious of some of the darker coloration in the wings there.

Check out some of the blue/black/spash threads on other breeds. Every where I look, anything splash always starts out looking something like your chick. Like these: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1127472/australorp-black-blue-splash-post-pics-please/90

Check this out. One of draye's babies had a similar coloring. Blue in there. It's going to be pretty too.

Tummy shot. :D Blue...

Here's a couple of shots of his crew that I got. His blacks, are black!
The darkest black I've gotten in a chick in a long time. Very
pretty. :) There is a feathered baby at the right.

It's been more than 4 weeks since any chick was sick. So we should be safe there. I read the chickens can be carriers for up to a year though.
some people say they are carriers for life. but vaccinated birds are carriers as well and no one says that. I found this information on a greek university site, in greek language only.

when I had IB in my flock my vet told me not to introduce any bird within 3 months.

another advice I got: not to introduce vaccinated young birds to the adults for at least 2 2-5 months after vaccination.

that is I have been told not my opinion. I know nothing.

@Cynthia12 I hope that those babies stay solid black. Hopefully they are out of the white hens. My rooster that sired them ( he's actually Red Birchen, I think), has Red in his wing feathers. I've been told that the white hens should produce solid black though. Yes, those were eggs that I sent to Cynthia. We've kind of sorta kept it quite, because I wanted to do a test shipment on my eggs. I've shipped some in the past. Most of the ones shipped arrived to their destination in good condition ( older shipments), but the fertility wasn't that great. Since then I've been working on the fertility of my flock. It had been pretty good, if I remember right the last ones I set and hatched had a 92/93 % fertility rate. Mind you though not all hatched, as chicks sometimes do they die in the shell before hatching. Anyway back to this shipment. I sent out 25 eggs. I wrapped each egg in paper towel then bubble wrapoedceach egg. Put crumpled paper in the bus and set each egg pointy side down. Then stuffed paper in that box, and sealed it. That box was put into another box and cushioned with more crumpled paper and cut down cardboard to help cushion it. All that and the box arrived crushed on one end. Not sure exactly how many eggs were crushed/damaged. But Cynthia said that 15 of those eggs were viable ( I think that was the word she used). 12 went into lock down ( 6 hatched and 6 DIS). Only 1 of the six hatched was fully feathered. I will work on a way to pack eggs ( hopefully) different and a little better when and if I decide to give another test shipment.

Thanks @chickengr I appreciate the info. I was thinking that vaccinations do what nature does in basically the same way. 3 months or so I can do and it makes sense.

someone told me that the shipped eggs arrive in better conditions if packed in straw.

Work on the Black/white Naked Necks all destroyed in a little of no time.
My Red Winged Black rooster and 10 hens in that run with him. Three whites a black and some Birchens and the pretty blue Birchen hen. Man that sucks but life will go on. I'll build them up again.

There will be two dead dogs by the end of the day.

I've got a few chicks from these breeding s in the broilers. Going to put on some more eggs trying for the Blacks/whites.
