Naked Neck/Turken Thread

This is my naked neck Gobble. You can see he has the feather pores on the sides of his neck, like 5 or 6 maybe but he never actually grows feathers from them. I wonder why? They don't look pecked or ingrown. He had some chick fluff there when he was young... He is about 3 1/2 months.

I love naked necks!

He's a handsome guy! No idea why the follicles don't grow. How old is he?

Quote: Thanks, Kevin has a pea comb. I wondered that about him. The lady I purchased him from stated he was full 100% NN, BUT.... she also had Easter Eggers running around the backyard as well. That is funny you picked that up. Good eyes, but at least I am not wrong for thinking that myself.

I agree, handsome bird. I do think it's likely a case of picking though- it seems like he has some pin feathers just starting to grow in the second picture and the first picture has a hole that looks like when a pinfeather has been recently pulled out. Pin feathers are just so exposed on NN with tiny bowties... pin feathers are very delicious to all chickens.. The NN I had with only one or two feathers on each side of neck were especially prone to losing them while in pinfeather stage.. if they happened to be isolated by themselves(in broody hen cages for example) or on free range they would grow out completely.

Nacked necks are my favorite breed... My mom told me in Greece they are a very popular breed and almost all of europe... They even use turkens for chicken egg farms over there.

Here's one of NN, posted her pic before, but she looks like Megan Fox in a chicken version...
