Blackchops my huge black NN hen has just laid a 111g egg. She is laying these monsters 5 days a week.




She must be trying for a record.....but I don't think I'll ever be able to hatch her eggs.

That is INSANE!!! Who's in with me into going over to Wales to get some of those hatching eggs?!!!

pgpoultry, you should toss a couple on the bator and see if there's an actual turkey in there!

Maybe some weird raptor would emerge if I tried to hatch her eggs (or as Nitrostreak suggests, a turkey). The real reason is that they are always double yolked, so I'd be lucky to hatch anything.

I must try to read up on my chicken physiology or maybe some learned member can tell me. Do chickens have a pituitary gland? I'm just wondering if the reason for her being so big and laying these monster double yolkers is a problem with her pituitary gland (should she have one!).

Pg and all. A big group of us are getting together for a picnic, raffle, games and contest and of course CHICKEN SWAP. Wait till you see my new cockerel and his brood of chicks. Actually they are from Nava but I haven't seen them yet and am wondering if my new young man would like to take care of the chicks rather than be alone ??

It has been a long time since I have had a NN rooster but he was simply gorgeous, hugh and very sweet. So of course I expect this one to be similar.

Maybe a bit far for me, but I'd love a bit of dry weather rather than the monotonous days of mist and mud that we are having right now. Lambs overdue to.
