Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Have redtails, they never touched the chickens, except sometimes they did swoop down on very little chicks. Coopers and sharpshins are really the ones to watch out - these will go for any not fully grown LF and adult bantams if very small. They dont seem to even try going for the adult LF.

NYRIR- I think all are females. Quality is good, if you want to improve breed with show bred silkies. If quality is not important, they are great as they are. First is partridge, second blue, third maybe a silver partridge.

I have a sweet little flock of 11 bantam hens... naked necks and cochin... frizzled and smooth... 5 are white and 4 are black and 2 are red. I'm thinking about putting my Splash/Blue Silkied Ameraucanas project flock in the same yard with these banty girls as there is plenty of room and I really think their temperaments would work well together very well. This could be a really fun way to run 2 fun projects at once... in addition to the Silked Ameraucana project... I would have the chance of hatching some Blue/Black Frizzled Naked Necks that lay Blue-Green eggs... and they would be split for silkie feathering so the next generation would have the possibility of silkie feathering!

I was looking through some photo files on my computer and came across these two pictures. I thought you might all like to see them. I took them while on a tour to the Embera Indian village deep in the jungles of Panama. This was a village chicken just picking amongst the refuse.

I'm looking for some fertile eggs to start a NN flock with.  I'm in Michigan, near Ypsilanti.  Anyone have any?  Can you mail these and still hatch them?  At this time of year?  I also have a place in Ontario, Canada.  Know any source up there?  Thanks,

There are two people on this thread that sell regularly. I have birds from both.
Nava sells LF and will ship chicks.
Dipsy Doodle Doo sells frizzles. I have bantams from her, not sure if she has LF. She ships eggs.

I've had mediocre success with eggs, 50% or less. You can hatch out eggs any time of the year as long as you have a place to keep the birds warm as they grow. Most folks don't want 7 week old birds living in their house. They're stinky and messy! I start mine in the house and around 4-5 weeks old I move them to the garage, still under a heat lamp. Depending on the weather, and I suppose it's very cold right now where you're at, you can start leaving them outside once fully feathered and acclimated to the outside temps. Most people raise birds in the spring because they can be moved outside a lot quicker than if it were the middle of winter.

You'll really enjoy this breed. Very easy to keep and great layers.

Thanks so much.....I hope you are right! I've never heard of "silver partridge" but she is really pretty...she looks like she has a lot of grey. It doesn't really show in the pics but these guys have really soft,fluffy feathering. Let's put it this way....I have hatchery silkies....they are TOTALLY different!!

I also bought 3 Blue/Black silkies from the same guy, I think they look pretty good.I think of those I got 1 roo and 2 hens....

If I post pics of them, could you give me an idea of quality? Or your opinion on if they would be good to use with the showgirls?
