Naked Neck/Turken Thread

momagain, that was so sad!

was just about to say below. always have moist feed for dehydrated or weak chicks. always have wet feed ready for shipped chicks, and make them drink before eating too.

another thing for weird sleeping positions is to check temp. move them under heat source when nthey do that.

wont be responding here much for a while- trying to be careful with carpal tunnel syndrome.
What has helped my little ones that were slow to start is I would mix chick feed with water to make it like a gruel. I make it so it is a little runny. This way when they do take some in they get both nutrition and fluid. I add some vitamins to it. You could try some sav-a-chick usually found at feed stores or poly-vi-sol without the iron. If you would happen to have pedialyte on hand you could try that for the electrolytes. I would hold them and put the mixture on a spoon and dip their beaks in it to encourage them. Hopefully once they figure it out they will start to eat on their own but it could take a few days, several times a day until they are eating enough on their own.
I am so sorry you lost so many and hope the remaining pull through! Keep us posted on how they are doing!

Good morning I'm sorry about your little chicks.I agree with Kev I also don't think you should be giving them to many different things because they will get diarrhea. Then they will get dehydrated for sure. Again I think You should do what KEV suggested and give them slightly liquid food. Hope they pull through this.

I just Googled chick sleeping patterns? Just so happens there is a thread on BYC "sleeping patterns of baby chicks" One guy says that people call them "tripods" 'cause they sleep with their heads on the ground

Thanks everyone, I was feeding them moistened chick start, and water, and water w/ honey (that was just a little honey and just after shipping) The temps were/are 95-98, they weren't huddling or anything like they were cold. Only one is alive this morning, I expected two to die in the night they stopped eating and one would only eat or drink when I forced the issue, one that died this morning was a complete suprise he was eating and drinking on his own and very active. The one left this morning is eating and drinking and active too. Still waiting to hear from the hatchery, called them again this morning.

Okay this morning there are some additional clues. They have been pooping, mostly green and liquid, but I caught this this morning from the only surviving one. Any ideas?

Just in case he survives any ideas on color? It was my understanding they have blue/black/splash so ?????

is that worms? I've never had that in any of my chicks...

To everyone; thank you for the very nice words!!! I read them to my son, he was so happy! :-)
My hubby thought it was strange that chicken ppl help chicken ppl! LOL

We went out and purchased some chicks from TSC; we have our white layers again, we have our medium brown layers; we are just
missing our dark chocolate layers now... :-(
my customers are getting impatient about eggs ack! Not like I can squeeze eggs out of week old chicks! lol..

The NN coverup sounds wonderful! I may take you up on that! I'll see if I can get a pic of her on wed; we are leaving for my
job to go to southern IL today and will camp out at my in-laws house to save on hotel money...gotta pick up inventory for
my home based job...

I'll post back when I get back!!! :-)

I couldn't tell it is was a worm or not, it didn't move, but it was partially dried out. But here it is close up any ideas anyone (green liquid poop and this)

Kaussandra, that looks like loose stool. I sure hope this little one pulls through. So sorry that you lost all the others. That's heartbreaking.

I was typing this while you were posting the above pics. Just took a while to post since I've had to stop and get after the kids.

It looks like a hair was passed and the poop is binded to it. Their first stools will look different because they are pooping out the food they had while in the egg.

I ordered chicks and was seeing liquid poop from many of them for the first few days.
