Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Just went outside to close up the girls and my white NN and black rumpless one -Beaky were still not in .Yes this is unusual .Beaky was staring into the fenced off area of my vegetable garden making very strange noises. Charlotte the white one was just staring at her. Took me a few minutes to get her to stop and come away from there. Finally realized it was a little bunny she was making all the weird noises at.Now only if the rabbit was scared of her. She is a little runt and gets no respect not even from them.

Just realized I named her after the buzzard on the Bugs Bunny cartoon. So much to living up to her name sake.

She can't stand up to any of the other girls but no rabbits gonna eat her mothers vegetable garden..The bunny's new name is Bugs. He'll be back I find as much rabbit poop as I do chicken

was looking at all my BLRNN and I noticed something that did not catch my eye until now, all of my BLRNN are Splash in color and my roos are either blue or black not one is splash.

could it be a coincidence?

coincidence. averages will show up in a very large number, small numbers can heavily skew one way or other by coincidence. all of the blr wyandottes I had were splash, not a single blue or black... the reverse of your situation.

Hi there! I need some help. I have twelve 6 week old pullets in one coop/run. One is a Turken. They all have plenty of room in both the coop and run so I don't think they are bored but for some reason my Turken is getting it's feathers pulled out. I didn't know who the culprit was so I immediately pulled the Turken out and isolated her. Two days later I tried putting her back in and as soon as I set her down a RIR ran over and pulled out a feather right in front of me. I have no idea what to do with her. I can't keep her isolated forever...don't have the room but they have pulled out a significant number of feathers on both shoulders and between her wings right behind her neck. I also can't put her in there again to be tortured. Any ideas? Also, they don't do it to any of the others. She is the only one.

I wish that I could help you but I am a loss. Besides in my mixed flock I have seen one of my birds, a splash Marans pulling and eating feathers. It also seems that the Ameraucanas do the same and my hens are very shaggy looking. They are being fed an extra dish of protein and calcium but as of yet I do not see an improvement and have ordered pinless peepers as a last resort. Oh I forgot to say that after investing other folks advice I also trimmed the top of their beaks as others had done without seeing any change. My friend suggested that they will nee time to regrow their feathers but since I can not observe them daily and for long periods I will try the peepers which act as blinders so that they do not see anything except what is on the ground. They also get a chance to free range here and there and are still very productive layers.

Good luck with your turken. I would like to suggest fitting her with a cover up if your are able. There is woman here on BYC that makes wonderful saddles and can craft just about any type of cloth item for birds if she has an idea of what you need. I do feel that it would be worth the effort. But my best solution would be to have several turken hens. I have noticed that the odd "man" usually get picked on.
