Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I raise naked neck bantams. I dont have any pictures I can post as of right now but will soon get some. I love my little naked necks. They are such sweet little birds

So cool! You have to make ten posts before you can post pics. I'd love to see them :D How small are they? I have bantams but they're on the larger side for bantams I think. A couple lay the same size eggs as some of my standard hens.

:welcome

Hi there!
I'm planning to start a new crossing to get a Rumpless Naked Neck Rhode Island Red Bantam.
According to what I have available, that are: RIR bantams, NN bantams and True Araucana bantams (rumpless), how would you suggest to start?
I was thinking to breed the NN to RIR and in 2 or 3 generations, get NNRIR without bowtie. And at the same time breed RIR to Araucanas and get Rumpless RIReds, and once I get those two lines, breed them to eachother and start selecting the Rumpless NN.
Unfortunately, here in Argentina, the Araucana bantams do not lay blue eggs, only the standard Araucanas do.

I'm very excited about this project, I'll look foreward to any questions or suggestions you may have.
I only have the NN bantams so far, so I still have time to withdraw or change my focus.

I wanted to share these pictures with everyone. The first is a picture of Darth ( Mr. Man). He is our six week old showgirl/cochin mix.

The second is of Camo, who is now three months old!!! Wow, he is growing:) My daughter Hannah is holding him.

Does anyone know what color he is? Originally we thought lavender, but now he has gold leakage. You can see it on his wing. Also, does he look like he is a Turken/Japanese bantam mix? He holds his wings down at an angle.

Thank you for looking!!

Last year I had an issue with one of my little frizzle chicks getting pecked by her siblings. I put Rooster Booster Peck No More Lotion on her. They were going for her tail and her wings so I just coated those feathers really well... and it worked great. I think once the "little peckers" get a taste of that they stay away... she healed up fast and thankfully it was never an issue again. :)
... just fyi... the lotion is violet and will dye light feathers... my little chick was white and this stuff dyed all of her feathers purple!
Thanks a bunch for the info! I will try to find some of that. I don't know if it was just one RIR doing it or not because as soon as the one ran over and did it I snatched the Turken up and took her back out. Poor baby :( She is buff/brown (started out a brown chick and her big girl feathers are buff and dark brown) so no dyeing issues but I appreciate the warning. Purple and white would be interesting. lol Our local high school colors. Would be a funny mascot!

It sounds as if covering her back with a saddle might help also. I tried that blue stuff and must not have covered enough area. But I think I would need to color my entire large fowl flock blue ! The bantams do not seem to have the same issue. But my little WCB Polish has lost some of her crest since she sticks her head along the fence line and the big girls have eaten the edges of her crest. I bet she likes that because it help her see better. ha ha. I wonder what she would look like with a bright blue half crest ?

URTE I like you idea of the crosses because they sound very interesting. I was wondering if you have considered having a cross with the rumpless Arcuna and the NN bantams only ? Are you adding the RIR for production ? Around here the NNs are good producers although my bantam NN did stop during the cold winter months. I do not have any RIRs. My flock already has many different breeds since there are so many interesting breeds to keep.

HANNAH AND MOM Darth is a real beauty and the second bird is a real looker also. My guess on color is blue since blue comes in many different hues. And I agree about being mixed with a breed that hold the wings downward but it would be a guess as to which one. OEGB hold there wings downward and they seem to be the most common little birds that do. Lots of folks have OEGBs. They are used to reduce size and add colors.
