Here is my Turken chick at 7 weeks old. What does everyone think? Cockeral or pullet? Just noticed today it has some redness starting around the face. I thought it had been injured at first then realized it was just getting red on it's neck, I'm guessing it's because the neck will be red colored and it is just starting to get the color to it. Am I right? I apologize in advance for picture quality I was trying to hold chicks that didn't want to be held in one hand and the camera in the other. If I need better pictures to help the experts figure out gender on this chick I can probably get my DH to help me this weekend.

It is in the corner in this picture (obviously!

). This is the only semi body shot I could get.

bhazell123- Congratulations!!!! thanks for the picture :)

marlowmanor- I am not an expert and very inexperienced, but based on my one NN, I would guess you have a girl:) My boy had a very red comb early on and it was very pronounced by that age. I could be wrong though and I would wait for some others to tell you. I just wanted to try to guess :) Either way....Congratulations too!!!!

Bhazell... Congrats on the new little turken! I think turken chicks have to be the cutest chicks ever!

Question for you guys and you probably have mentioned this somewhere in the thread.
I had a young turken girl apparently hide a stash of eggs in a coop I wasn't using at the time. I couldn't find her on evening and here I found her in the coop broody. These were all her eggs so I know they all came from her. She hatched 10 out of 11 eggs surprisingly and 5 are NN with the bow tie. Do the chicks that are not NN, still carry the gene? Would it be recessive or non-existent? I was just wondering what would happen when these non-NN chicks grow and if they still carry the gene but recessive?

Thanks!

Thanks! I didn't know if it would be lurking in the background somewhere and it could pop out later if 2 recessives got together maybe.

Thank you for that guess. I'm hoping it is a girl since boys will likely be sold. I only have a couple unique chicks in the 10 chicks we have right now and the turken is one of them. I have a little polish too (as you can see in the group photo) and it is a girl. I definately want to be able to have a couple unique chicks in a laying flock, the turken definately fits the bill for uniqueness!

DH isn't a fan of the turken but I like the unique look of them, and my kids like it too. This one is called Shaved Neck by my kids!

marlow, I am not anywhere near an expert and am wrestling w/ the same issue of gender id, but for what it's worth (trust me not much) I would guess female.
