Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Just took 25 chicks out of the incubator. And they were all naked neck. They are all from my polish X naked neck pens. Some of these are possibly from my chocolate/dun polish rooster.

congrats! I am really wanting to see babies again.. finally set a batch under a hen yesterday and one hen hid a nest and is setting probably since last week. Leaving eggs in some nests to let the hens go broody if they are inclined to.

saving some eggs as a friend is going to let me put some in her incubator.

things like silver sussex(huge, huge birds) bred with LF NN, trying to collect from the sussex roo to fertilize the bantam silver laced NN(goal is LF laced NN), he is far too big to breed those naturally.. unfortunately, he is um.. not cooperating one bit. not even a half drop. So I don't know if I will ever be able to hatch anything from those hens.. anyone have suggestions?

Have had good luck with broodies this year. Thanks to New To Farming(Lisa)She gave me some silkie mix hens, they are broody machines.Would love to see some large fowl laced NN.Have you thought about using silver laced wyandottes.Probably not as big as sussex.Good luck, hope you get some chicks.

wyandottes would be soo much easier but I've decided to make it so much harder by making a goal of laced birds with laced tails(like sebrights). Seems such a minor detail but genetically there's a major difference between laced vs non laced tails. Main reason is I simply like laced tails better but also there are barely any laced large fowl with laced tails so they'd buck the trend a little bit.

Making this even harder by wanting to make them hen-feathered too.. because it helps the roo have good lacing all over like the hens.

two of the laced NN lay green eggs. hope to carry this along also. Hen feathered, large, laced with laced tails, green egg laying NN, let's see what else I might want to throw in... ha!

Have you thought about artificial insemination? Seems pretty straight forward, though I have never tried it.

I have a question:

If you hatch a chick that is out of one NN parent and it has a feathered neck, let it grow out and breed it back to a NN will the possibilities of NN chicks be higher? Since then, I think, the babies would be 3/4 NN lines. Does this sound right?

No. because the none NN chick is still lacking the NN gene, 50% chance will still apply here
