in reference to discussion on partridges, normally partridge down have a lot of markings especially on head/face. If the down is clear cream or light cream with very minimal markings, more likely it is wheaten or 'wheaten mixed with partridge'.

Reba, Thing 1 and Thing 2 are being awesome moms. The chicks are doing great. I set more green eggs then brown, but ended up w/ more NN! I set the green eggs for my FIL who wants some female chicks "but none of those naked ones" lol lol lol can't help his bad taste, just leaves more NN for me!!!! I think there are 4ish w/ no or tiny bow ties (I think those are more likely to carry Sc)

if a nn chick has two rows of feathers under its beak were its wattles would be does that mean its a roo or does that have nothing to do with sexing? its the only one who has it.

Could you take picture to show that?

There are a couple things that can make a nn chick more or less naked than others. The main one is pure nn versus not pure nn.. the difference is enough you can see it, pure nn are more naked. Picture below shows not pure nn(left side) and pure nn(right side), you can see the pure is obviously more naked- less fuzz on neck is the easiest thing to see.. by the way both of them grew up to be girls.




There are other things like nn with pea comb can make the nn chick look more naked even if it is not pure nn. For example, a not pure nn with pea comb can look much more naked than a not pure nn with a single or straight comb. This also sometimes happens with rose comb but not as strongly.

Also, nn chicks with pea comb usually have a different naked pattern on the face and on the head around the comb and beak.

For some reason, some lines of nn will throw birds more or less naked and has nothing to do with comb type. Some lines will throw birds with no feathers on neck at all, some lines never throw any like this, always either a big patch of feathers on neck or a tiny patch with few feathers and this looks like a bow tie.

im sorry i do not have a camera right now. i need to buy one.

some have bow ties and some dont. some also only have some specks of feathers on their neck too. i know i have some patdrige ones too. some are dark and some light. i think i might also have a wheaten in there too. but who knows because i bought them from the feed store and those people have no idea what they were doing. the guy who gave me the chicks thought that the black feathered chicks were males and the other ones that werent black were females which i found very hard to believe. i thought i read somewhere that males have a redder neck than the females or am i wrong?

Well, a little desappointed because I ended up with just one red pullet from this spring hatch really like her.

I had to let the others go

3 whites
3 splash
6 blue

I'm waiting a little longer to decide on the black ones but it looks like I could end up with a couple

I'm set on my rosters
I'm keeping a couple of extras for every color just in case

I'm going to put the extras in my show pens and take them around the world until I need them to breed.

And out of nowhere I got me a buff pullet
(( SO HAPPY!!!!))

I'm going to put her with my white roo and go from there ( since I don't have a buff ) and hopefully soon ill have my very own buff line

Yes, usually the rooster has the whole neck red( not as a cockerel )

so then you can not go by the coloring of the neck when they are chicks only when they are roosters? are there any ways of knowing what they are when they are only chicks?
