LOL sounds like a roo not yet accepted by the hen(s). A roo not yet 'dominant' or accepted by hens will sometimes resort to sneaking up and hoping to get on a hen before she realizes who it is... just saw that myself last week, but another hen also ran over to try whupping him too. I need to decide to keep him or not, soon.

Carrying the Sc gene is different from expressing it as completely naked. A hen that just carries the gene would look like a NN w/ less feathering, but to get a naked chick you have to have 2 carriers and even then it isn't to common. I wasn't sure if the naked female needed a saddle for breeding or if it is a case of AI.

You're so lucky to have the gene. Does your roo seem to have less feathering? afaik the only outward appearence of carriers was a row of missing scales on the legs so if it also reduces the feathering, that would be interesting info. I'm not sure if you knew this already- believe your birds came from stock where naked neck and scaleless were deliberately mixed in together. afaik, scaleless carriers without naked neck look like normal chickens(except for the row of missing leg scales)

I recall reading of scaleless birds popping out of a New Hampshire stock.. no mention of naked necks... just normals and completely nakeds.

added: just remembered there was a scaleless that popped out of oriental type breed in Vietnam.. Thailand or..?? saw pictures it looked like t rex.

Ok, let's play...guess the sex! Here is chick #1. Non-naked neck. 2 1/2 weeks old.

This is the one I thought was a roo the day he was born. What do you think?
