Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I have one like her now. I say her because I have had several that hatched out that color and have never seen a cocleral that color, they have always been girls. I just have the one left because orginally I didn't like the coloration and thought they were going to be barred, but decided to save one to see how she turned out. All I can say is beautiful. I have her along with a red NN in with a Golden Comet rooster now to try to build my NN flock back up. This rooster is easily ten or eleven pounds, so should make some huge babies.

I know everyone is saying this 8 1/2 week old is a pullet, but wow, she has big wattles and a big comb for that age! Only my males looked like that. Just saying.

Don't you just love it. I have had several with big combs and wattles and think rooster. But they can be pullets. NN's can really fool you sometimes. I still say girl too feminine.

So I just got some chicks and was told they came from naked necks but they were hatched WITH the neck feathers. I know nothing about naked necks, so I have a few questions. Are Naked Necks a breed? Or are they similar to the Easter Eggers in the respects an easter egger is anything that lays a tinted colored egg with no real SOP? How do they lay? Are they cold hardy? If I breed these chicks will I get NNs from them? I never really liked the naked necks(but I love turkeys go figure) and I still don't but these chicks are the most sweetest chicks I have ever had. If I get a hen out of the 4 chicks I got, I am definitly keeping her but In case I ever cross breed her I want to make sure I don't get any naked necks. Also how are they meat wise? II just don't have the time to read up on a breed I have no interest in, well the ones without the feathers any way!

ETA Please don't take offense as I really don't mean anything by my questions or comparison to an EE. I just really love these little guys because they are so sweet and would like to know more about them.

If those are from Naked Neck parents then they carried only one gene and the chicks did not ihjeiret any of the naked neck genes. Breeding those together will not get you any naked necks, as they do not carry the naked neck gene. Yes, Naked Necks are an actual breed, they have their own SOP. Folks usually breed them out to other breeds to get certain characterisics (spell) own their own birds. ETA: It is possible that their parents were breed from parents that were from Naked Neck stock.

Been my experience also. Seems to be a fun trait unique to large fowl NN? With these I ignore the comb and look for coloring patterns and tips of feathers coming out of pin feathers at this stage.

Wow that is remarkable! I was so worried because she was so red so early but she is feathering out like a female- I think.
This picture really helps! I have been wondering about the green tint on the legs, this is normal then?

Green tint is visual effect of yellow skin combined with pigment in a specific layer of leg skin. If she had white skin, the legs would look slate.
