Naked Neck/Turken Thread

One of the boys @ a few days shy of 7 weeks.

These guys are bigger than my previous NNs. Even the girls are larger. Looking forward to some coloured eggs from the two girls. I may keep a boy if he can behave (I've had bad luck with NN boys).

Kev,

My NNs are pure white. If I want to try to make showgirls - I have white silkies. Now if they don't have any colour bleeding through or any black spots, can I assume when bred to a white silkie all babies will be white?

I think one of them had a black dot as a chick though. The rest were all yellow.

Both parents were not white. Does this make a difference?

He carries the scaleless gene in addition to the NaNa gene, so he has less body feathering and if I ever get a female that carries the Sc gene I have to potential to have completely naked chickens.

Thanks! How do you tell that he's a Sc carrier? Is it just the less then normal feathering like my Eugene?

They actually are missing a row of scales on their legs, long ways down the center of the leg where there should be scales is just smooth skin.

Other things like a pea comb can lessen the amount of feathers a particular NN has too

Not sure I am ready for totally naked chickens! I guess there would be a hugh market for them as they wouldn't have to be plucked! But, I like the different colored chicken feathers.....you would have to be happy with different colored skin....ummm, not appealing to me.

Oh if I get naked chickens those will be my meaties, I'll still have my pretty layers.

My first NN is squatting! I am so excited. She started squatting about 5 /6 days ago so it shouldn't be long now! That group of NNs are 23 1/2 weeks old. The rooster from that hatch has been terrorizing all the older girls for weeks now. Have to say he doesn't know what he is doing yet! hahahha.....he usually ends up falling on his face over the hens head! hahhaha. Poor guy, he gets his feathers all ruffled up and walks away embarrassed!

I did lose a hen in the nest box a few days ago. So sad. She went in to lay an egg and a while later I went to collect the eggs and the other hens were already gone but she was still in there and I was just saying to her, "Are you gonna stay in here all day?" and I went to pet her and she was stiff as a board. OMG I was soooo upset. She was an 8 1/2 month old EE that gave me beautiful green/blue eggs! Not sure what happened. Egg bound? Does that happen to a young hen? We have copperheads around, maybe a snakebite? I don't know. I just buried her. She laid my favorite colored eggs!

So, now I am waiting for my new egg layers to start! My Isbar is now 27 1/2 weeks old and is getting pretty red in the face! She should start this month along with maybe 5 more pullets! Then, I should have some new layers in August including my Indian Runner Duck!
Well, my Isbar beat the NN in laying. Here is her first egg! Nice moss green! (The one in the middle) My NN was in the nest for a while, but didn't lay an egg....maybe tomorrow!

Here's a few of my NN's there still young but they all look like roosters except 1
