They had their first dubia's today, and they liked it! lol lol lol I was proud of the mamma's, they ate very few, gave them all to the chicks.

are NN's houdan? or are your chicks mixed with a houdan chicken? im sorry i know very little about NN's.

Dubias are a feeder insect I raise for the chickens.

My chickens are a mix, some are pure NN, but most are a mix of NN and EE, houdan, astralope, (sp) and another I can't think of right now.

Thing one and two (the two black broody moms in these pics) are NN x mottled houdan.

If you mean Australorp, think about their heritage. They were Australian Orpingtons. That way you will remember how to spell it. I was always spelling it wrong until I learned about that.

Your chicks are fabulous as always!

Thanks, and yes that is the one. I have one girl Raven that is a mix w/ australorp, one girl Jackie O mixed w/ spitzhauben, Mensa is mixed w/ something I can't remember, Thing one and two w/ mottled houdan. Not sure what Jaxom is mixed w/ to give him the dark skin/flesh, not sure about Reba the red NN she may not be a mix, she is pure for the NaNa gene I know that.

I feed sub adults to young chicks. Older chicks and adult chickens get the adults. The adults are pretty big, but you would be surprised what a chicken can swallow, I've seen mine swallow mice, frogs, snakes whole. They LOVE them.
