Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I took 2 of my NN youngsters to a local BYC swap last weekend, my first swap ever, and they sold like wildfire. Probably for the meat, and I try not to think about it, but at least I know they'll sell.

The NNs must sell well depending on what part of the country you live. There is a lot of poultry activity in Lucasville OH and FL. Arkanasas, parts of Virginia and most of WV still have a lot of backhill folks. You can tell them how good NNs are, but it doesn't matter. I've had people refuse to purchase nice, started NN birds that didn't turn out to be NNs (had all their neck feathers) once they found out they were of NN heritage. Ridiculous but you can't argue with ignorance and/or prejudice.

Most people in my area (chicken people too) have never seen an NN before. I have had people that are driving by, stop in and ask me what they are. LOL

I've had the same thing! But to be fair I've also got the "are they sick"?

LOL...that is funny!

Yea, we rent our home as a vacation rental (http://www.vrob.com/438003) and a lot of the renters come out to photograph the chickens and a lot of them ask what is wrong with our NNs. But then we let them hold them and they really like the uniqueness of them! In my flock, I have one of about everything! I give each rental a dozen of my multicolored eggs. Blues, greens, pinkish, whites and different shades of browns. Most renters, like me (until last year) didn't even know colored eggs exisited! They love them!

No, we have a 7000 sq foot log home on 25 acrea of woods in the North GA mountains. We have a 3 acre lake full of fish, and our decks face Amicalola Falls, the tallest waterfall East of the Mississippi! Check out our website!

Due to the horrible economy, we lost our business and almost lost our home. We survived 9 advertised forclosures! Now in our 60's, it is really hard for us to find jobs, especially when we live 25 miles from the nearest small towns! Most people want 2 30 year olds instead of a 61 year old.....Anyway, the bank revised our loan so that we can now afford to stay here! That's when we decided to rent out our home and live in the apartment attached to the house. (Was our daughters before she moved to Wash DC), We started doing this last Oct. and we are pretty much booked out! We were worried about the chickens, but it seems most renters love the chickens! Some renters were lucky enough to be here when we had hatchings! The kids would all sit around the incubator and watch them hatch and then I would let the kids name them for me! It seems to be one of the highlights for them! Of course, seeing bears in the yard, or deer has been fun for those city folk that come! The mountains and the waterfall is a great view from the hottub on the deck. We do campfires and treasure hunts and have a canoe, a paddle boat and an infared sauna/ Don't you want to come??????
