I Thank you, a happy note .... Put EE mom in LF run and Coop this Pm ( in cat Carrier ) she stayed there a couple hrs, then when others were up,I let her out to eat n what have you, DANG if the booger did not go right in a start a fight ! LoL feathers flying all kinds of wings flapping next thing she is out the coop door Stops just short of wire looks around and has a go again, Same results LoL then it got Quiet dead quiet .... Poor thing ... she is on Hen notice and is humbly waiting a chance to perch. I closed the door and walked away.

the 4 NN chicks seem happier well 3 healthy ones All from just over 1 lb. to almost 2 lb. Guessing this one a Boy thought a good name would be " Bubba"
the 1 Sick ones not so frightened. averages about 345 g day (3/4 Lb. ), I expect to find dead each time I go to feed her.

Kassaundra exquisite pictures are usual. The rear shot is splendid. It's too cold here to take my gloves off for picture taking !
Turken Lover good to hear about your chicks. I inherited six mutts which have had a good start. I am hoping that they carry the blue eggs gene at least the rooster. Anyway it if fun to watch them grow and change colors. There must be at least eight breeds in the mix, silkie included.

I'm new to this tread, a friend of mine, Flower, someone you all know introduced me. At the time I was not interested, then there was Sylvia!

Now I have a very lovey girl, I have become attached to. Is is about 12-13 weeks old, she is spending time in the nesting boxes the last 2 day. Isn't she a bit young for eggs? She grow up fast, but I do not want her to start laying until she is old enough, yet I know I am not doing anything to force lay. So when she starts laying is up to her. I have not know ticked any of my girls taking an interest in a nesting box so early before. 20 + weeks with the others! then an egg in a few weeks, then after a couple of weeks they get regular! a 28+/- , or 33+/-, or a 45+/- hour cycle. I have noticed the girls on a longer laying schedule do not take a break as often.

Should I, or do I have something to worry about with Sylvia taking an interest in nesting so soon. She can't be going broody before even laying an egg. She was a good week or so older then my others, and seemed to take care of the younger right away, down to the younger ones gathering around her and under her, more like a mother then a big sister.

I wouldn't be surprised, she is sweet and a very calm girl. Planing a head, see which one fits, I have 6 boxes, but only 3 are used, one has a broody in it. They found their own 7th nesting spots in the unused brooder. Flower will probably barrow Sylvia for breeding.
