Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I'm partial to blacks. I have a few of all accepted colors that might be good to star with. I have several buff birds but aside from their laying ability, I'm not crazy about them. I do like the reds and whites but I will start and finish with black. My son intends to start a SOP line as well but he is partial to the whites so we will be friendly competitors.

EDITED: Neither I nor my son have any allusions...we both know this will be a long and arduous road but most things worth while do not come easy.
I've only been to a couple of shows and not big ones either, but haven't seen a NN at either so you may have the edge. and what's a little friendly competition among family members? Should be fun.

I like the whites w/ the dark skin.

Had to go find a cute temptation smiley

oops didn't work

Your ideas please : Is this normal NN behavior. . . my NN Buff Reba
is Laying eggs every day, today she started Collecting the wooden fake ones, turning them under her and cooing this lasted an a hour or so, then she gets up and leaves nest box. will not come back till tomorrow for another egg laying. she does share box with newest rescue EE,

who just pushes them out from under her. yes the EE is lowest on list. I'm putting a dozen NN eggs in the bator this week and am hoping Reba can raise them in a few weeks. IF eggs are fertile ?
1 ) is Reba broody ?
2 ) how do I switch chicks with fake eggs ?

She could be thinking about going broody. But sounds more like just her egg laying ritual

You can only give her chicks if she really is broody.

If she is really broody by the time the hatch and actually actively setting on the eggs you can attempt the switch (chicks dayolds for eggs) but be aware there is risk. Not every broody is accepting of this. I have done it successfully several times and not had one to reject them, however people are all the time reporting this as failing. I do it at night (or dusk) dusk for one I haven't done it to and don't know how she will react so I can sit in the area w/ her and observe. Night if it is one who has accepted chicks like this before. Protect the chick w/ your hand (so hold over handed ) so that when she pecks at the intrusion she will peck you not the chick and put it under removing the fake eggs w/ each chick.

We've had her 5 weeks, and do not know her chick habits. I've tried leaving "Store" eggs for her and always find them Cold and alone. I've a few weeks to decide. Never incubated chicken eggs, just setting temp 99.5 ish and hoping for Redd and Reba small bow Buff babies

I would have a plan to human brood them if I were you.

Thank you

Mine really like bananas too, but they like dubias better so the dubias get the bananas then the chickens get the dubia.
