Is there a way to mark a hens bottom to know what eggs are hers?

I've read the food color 'trick' works, but never tried it here.

Some years ago, I hung various colored crayons in the nest boxes and asked the hens to mark their own eggs but the birds took it as an affront and an invasion of their privacy.

Most simply ignored the crayons or pecked at them but there were a few pullets who wrote less than complimentary comments on the nest box walls....No respect from the younger generation!

All kidding aside...Nava's idea with the lipstick sounds most promising but if you have more than one bird with questionable egg laying practices, one might need several colors and I might suggest a good base of talc or face powder to keep the paint intact in case the hens had several BMs before they got round to laying. Good luck!!!

I just thought I would mention that the color is not the same. Naked Necks are a lighter color.

Mahogany red is ideal red color on NN. Only reason why you see lighter color NN at shows is because the breeder never got the color down pat.

Just wanted to show a few pics of my f1 polish X naked necks.The 2 pullets are in with a white crested cuckoo polish and after I get some from them they will be put under a khaki polish male.The f1 male will be put over a khaki polish hen.
