Naked Neck/Turken Thread

400

Been a long time since I've been on, I hope everyone is doing well. Here is a pic, the first girl is one of my Frizzle NN and she is still in molt, and a couple of the regular girls. They are all in their pens cleaning out, I have been slow this year.

Finally up and about and got the images taken and stored on laptop and other various ways cause you never know what you can loose here technology wise. Here is a group photo of my new turkens. Any help in learning about them will be great. One of our plans here is to help educate local farmers and owners of animals how to properly care for their livestock. By seeing that we can do it with what is available they can set an example for the community and better the lives of animals throughout the country.

Hello and
welcome-byc.gif
, from Arkansas, USA. Those look like nice Turken (Naked Necks),,,,can't really tell the gender from that photo, and at the age they are sometimes really hard to tell.

Thanks, what view do you need that might help? I got individual shots as well but I can do close ups later today if you can tell me what is needed. They are speciality birds here for now so if I can breed nice babies I can have a small business here. Will see what I can do once I have a house.

Naked necks are very rare in our area. In fact I found a rooster on our craigslist, It's a 4 hour drive to where it is, and they want $70 for it. I said I don't think so. That would be a total of an 8 hour drive and figuring the price of gas. I didn't find it worth while. I figure I will stick with what I ordered from Cackle, and what I hatch out that I got sent to me as eggs. Brenda found a lady with a naked neck hen for sale for $60 the other day I told her to hold off, I will sell her one of my chicks when I get them. Thank goodness I ordered 10 pullets, because 3 are going to Angier and 1 is going to Brenda. Lets hope that I get some from the eggs I got on e-bay when I hatch them. Because if folks are getting prices like that and people are willing to buy them for that price I can make a little off selling the babies. However I want them more for me then for selling, but might as well try.

Close up head shots would be helpful, and check the saddle area on them. If they have any (may still be a little young yet), that sort of hanging down then it is a good sign of being a rooster.
I can pretty much tell with my own about a week or so after hatch, but I have them close and handle them alot. With me pictures are sometimes hard to tell.
