Yeah Kassaundra? sometimes I think there's a slight but good different taste to the fibro birds... wondered if that was just my imagination or not.

SOP calls for black legs on black(feathered) NN. It's because solid black feathering normally has a darkening effect on the legs as a side effect. As a result it's not easy to get clear yellow legs on a solid black feather bird. Wise move I think.

I knew either you or Nava or Vam...... sorry don't remember the spelling would know about the sop black legs thing.

It is a slight difference in taste, but I think it is there. Definitely pleasant and I think sweet. W/ heavy seasoning it would be lost.

Yeah! good to know it might actually exist. Most of the time I don't use much seasoning. Think I'd agree it's subtle enough to be lost with more than a bit of seasoning...

fibro make for great halloween party dishes lol.... it always ends up being only me who eats more than one bite though.. most are just too spooked by the appearance, even if they admit their first and only bite tasted 'surprisingly nice'....

All the more for us right???? lol lol lol

It always surprises me, what people get "hung up on" about their food and what they will eat w/o batting an eye.

Ain't that the truth. I'll try anything almost once... discovered many great loves(curry! I could eat them every day) and delicious surprises along the way. :)

Sometimes I try to think of different ways to trick people into eating fibro.. maybe tortilla soup with halloween colored chips..... heh!

My Gma had a cookbook that would be up your alley, she got the biggest kick out of it, it was titled "The Secrets of a Sneaky Cook"

Oh yes! Already have one very successful sneak snack- "onion rings"- calamari. That one surprises people so much, have won converts. Most won't ever try it again despite it being delicious to them.

It did backfire the last time- turns out that person person was allergic... she um, was 'on fire'(hint, had to use bathroom very frequently and was painful) for three days..... to this day any mention of squid or calamari in her presence gets a real nasty glare in my general direction....

Oh no, I'm glad she was okay. I have several big food allergies, so I'm way super sensitive to setting them off, in myself or others, I could never sneak food like that. I'm the person who asks the wait staff 20 questions about their food before ordering it. I have walked out of resaurants when the cook staff have gotten secretive or mouthy w/ me over ingredients.

SOP nn, even black ones do not have fibro genetics (dark skin / flesh / bones / organs) They may have the darker legs not sure on that someone who knows SOP might know that. These birds are my special mix b/c I love the look of fibro, it is actually tasty too. It takes a little getting used to eating it,(visually) but it has a very subtly sweeter taste.

Ok Thanks for explaining that. Was starting to wonder then when I looked at the photos I saw that one black had a regular leg and a leg that was black, so figured it must be something bred in. I haven't ever tried the ones with the dark meat like that before. Sounds like it may taste good though.

Kev,
Today I was looking at some of my black feathered chics and was thinking about the way they color up. Many black chickens have white on them as chicks. I am breeding for black chicks and black adults. Some of the all black chicks often get some brown penciling as adults. Why do bi colored chicks turn solid black and solid colored chicks turn bi color?
