Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Reptar finally let it slip!! He had his guard up much of the time!! But saturday night I got ahold of him, and saw the pointy saddle feathers. This morning he let his guard down and crowed when My mom was doign feeding.. He's gonna be a BIG bird!! bad part is, we don't need any roos, so I figure, they are a dual purpose breed... why not utilize that purpose. But, Reptar will be getting a good life until then. Here's some pix of him..

the other red in the last pic is a hen I will be keeping. ;)

Why is it always the fair birds??!! Come back from getting my temps renewed, to see my true NN (No bowtie[well, okay, a tiny bowtie of 3 feathers, close enough to no bowtie?]) hen, had a cut on her neck. Currently I have her separated in the coop (luckily we built cages anyways for our show birds...) So it cant' get any worse... Unless she scratches at it with her toenails. ugh. Any suggestions on how to keep her from opening it farther? We will be going to Wyoming in 3 days, and I don't think my dad will be too open to changing vetwrap, and I don't think it's going to be easy to do that... I was thinking like an old tube sock or something with the foot cut off, used almost as a scarf to cover it? so that way she doesn't scratch it and she can still swallow/breathe and dad doesn't have to worry about changing it daily?

i'm just worried if it gets any deeper it'll cause damage to an artery or her esophagus and /or windpipe.

Looks like a skin tear should heal pretty quickly. Some blue kote, or vetricyn spray, or antibiobic ointment and a sock should do the trick.

So good to see Rudy thriving!

Poor girl! Like Kass said, and she should heal up fine.

My Naked Neck Frizzle Green-Eggers are laying up a storm!

Hey guys! Any way to tell the sex of a 5 day old turken? Are they all kind of jumpy and territorial when you put your hand in the brooder? It acts like a Roo already but I wasn't sure if this is normal for the breed. This is my first turken so I'm too not familiar with the breed. Thanks!

Too early in my opinion to tell sex, but I can usually tell with my own that I hatch within a week to week and 1/2. It's just hard for me to tell in pictures.

Kev, you think the chick will look like a white crested black polish just in NN form when it gets older? That would be so cool looking.

That would be real cool looking! Where have the people with NN polish projects been? haven't seen them in here for a good while...

I think this chick is going to be a regular mottle though- houdan in the mix.
