Naked Neck/Turken Thread

pgpoultry, I have a hen that does this too! Hadn't seen this before & she does this several times a day. I have noticed she is that roo's favorite, don't know if that is the case with yours or if it has anything to do with it. I was thinking this was her way of asserting her favorite status with the roo as I've observed it only happens when all the other hens are nearby.

Now there are 3, but didn't bring the camera w/ me yet.  One little totally yellow w/ a tiny bow tie, and one yellow w/ the tiniest dark spots.

Such a darling baby! I just think NNs are the sweetest looking chicks. Congratulations!

Rudy has been w/ the whole flock fro almost a week now, I am so impressed no one has harassed him at all. I was afraid the other chickens not his hatchmates would have "issues" accepting him as a chicken, but no problems.

I think she will be some version of a patterned white and black. But they are a big box o'chocolates!!!!! lol

I need to get better pictures of these two. The front one is a pullet, from Ideal, 17 weeks old. The back one is a cockerel from Cackle, 14 weeks. I wish I had a picture of his legs, they are HUGE. They are always together, they've made their own mini flock even though they are with all the others. We still have our red Turken girl but I'm a little concerned she's to smitten with our CL rooster and won't do well if we try separating her from the main flock to try and hatch a few chicks. Of course I still need a different incubator before even thinking about it. I really wish I would have kept a few more of our Turken pullets from Ideal this year but I was sure the eggs I ordered would hatch.

So if the rooster is carrying 1 copy of the mottled gene: what are the odds of offspring from non-mottled hens carrying the mottled gene?

That's a crazy pattern. She might look exchequer if her mottling gets heavier.

I haven't been on here for ages,but still have all of my Naked Necks.

My little splash,Ginge (so called because she has a ginger mullet) has taken to 'going under' one of my biggest roosters, Artemis.

Anyone know what this is all about? She stays there for 30 minutes or so,then back to her usual behaviour.



None of my other birds do this.

Hello! Long time no see! My guess- snuggling under others apparently is of great comfort to chickens in general, a hold over from when they were chicks. Chicks will try to snuggle under their mothers as long as they can and if young birds are still sleeping on floor, they spend a fair effort trying to go under other birds or wedge themselves between birds. Most adults will not tolerate another trying to snuggle under like this so this is a very tolerant roo!
