Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Hatch day is always exciting fir me also. I'm fighting with myself about setting eggs now. It's way too hot for babies that hatch put this time of year. I'm trying to hold off until September.

I'm trying to do the same thing, but since my husband just bought a portable a/c unit for the chicken cabin I'm beginning to run out of reasons to wait.

Got one early bird who couldn't wait till tomorrow.hoping an praying the others will come on!

My Naked-Neck Plot thickens!!!

I'm going to wait for Turk to bring the NN hens to me because he came up with something else. He only has one NN cock bird...the big red one that I showed pics of here some time back and that is the only cock that's been around the NNs.

So...some time (like 8 or 9 days) before departing Frankfort, they are going to collect NN eggs for me and bring them with the hens....that will be a time saver to get pure birds stocked up and I suspect the mature hens won't lay off production too long, since I'm sure they will remember their former home in short order.

I'm very anxious to see what the get of NN hens covered by Chanteclers will look like and absolutely trembling with excitement (maybe not exactly trembling)...in anticipation of seeing how they do as capons!!!

Most folks don't realize what a fine meat bird the NN is, 'straight up'. A month of finishing one makes for a great meal, unadulterated. (But I'm gonna' adulterate them).

That's what I would think. There someone on FB that said they got theirs registered. Posted a copy if the papers also, but I googled it and nothing shows up.

Me too. I'm not thinking such a registry is viable. Cocks can cover too many hens and hens (and incubators) can hatch thousands of eggs from one cock. Sounds like someone might have a little scam going to hook neophytes.

well. i have 1 chick hatch all rest didnt make it. out of 14 1 hatch 2 internal pip which happened to be a wlh \nn and a lavender orpington. all my orpington astrolop nn crosses had many issues. didnt fully develop or organs on outside. and my one full nn there didnt seem to be anything wrong with just didnt try to hatch. im guessing its genetics? think im going to order live chicks and then try again next spring.in the mean time maybe i can get a new bator
