Naked Neck/Turken Thread

@Kev

This one shows the head chick was this color and pattern all over at hatch.

That is a partridge (eb) for sure. The way the spots/stripes make a marbled pattern. that never happens on black chicks.

I think the dark striped chick you mention probably is partridge with separate something making it much darker than normal.

That's what I'm thinking happened. I originally thought a hawk made a pass in the area, but then I caught the cat slinking around and chased him away. I've seen cats around the coops before (they hunt the wild birds that like that tree), the chickens react but not that strongly, so I am totally in agreement with you. Although all chicken housing is predator safe, I'm planning to put up electric fencing around their "compound". It's worth the good night's sleep...

Yeah! that's how my chickens are with cats too.. the extreme reaction was just worrying and wanted to give a heads up in case... Hope whatever it is gets zapped away forever..

your set up is awesome.. no harm in adding something extra if it's not much of a hassle.

Two or three of my black-downed chicks have had face markings like this from the start - more subtle, but definitely cream/white by the eye and beak angle. One of these is definitely starting to look like partridge (from what you are saying) with a brown pattern over the black. Now that I know what sex most of them are, the game from here on out is seeing how their colors turn out.

Yeah, I just need to get it set up. First tractor move today (overdue), and I'm anxious - hope it goes ok and I don't run anyone over.

My 26 week old Marans-Turken has been laying for about 2 weeks. Her eggs started out a speckled yet boring brown, but each egg is darker than the one before it. She's laid 10 eggs so far and I'm very impressed with the color.
First eggs on the left, yesterday's egg on the top right.

Nice looking eggs.

nice eggs. thank you for posting this. I was thinking whether to cross NN with araucana or BCM. I am now going to cross at least 1 with BCM.

I got a better photo of my black-downed chick who is developing partridge features (below). There's another where it's much less prominent (so far) - just a few little brown marks among the back. Three others still seem mostly all black. (So far...)

That was the way my partridge colored NN looked like when they were acquired. It definitely looks partridge.

I posted all the picture I took of the babies yesterday except this one.

These are what hatched out from a clutch from this hen that were naked necked.

Not the best picture but the only one I have of her. There won't be anymore because she was one of the ones lost to a possum this past week.

She is 1/2 Black Jersey Giant, 1/4 Easter Egger and 1/4 Production Red.

I don't have a picture if the daddy of them but if you know what a Black Sex Link rooster looks like then that is what he looked like except he had a naked neck. He had a little more white feathers over his back area than most BSL though. His daddy was the old Salmon rooster and his mama was a barred hen I just called her a cross breed.

One of these chicks ( not sure if you can make it out in the picture) is base color of partridge but looks like it is getting barring over it. Very unique looking.
