Naked Neck/Turken Thread

We have a hatchery (small family owned) about 30 miles from here that sells them, the trick is contacting them, and timing it when they actually have ducklings.

The trick is to get those (whites) that have been especially bred to mature quickly and have extra heavy breast portions. The ones bred in Pa. breed their whites to those standards.

Hi. I have incubated 2 of my Turkins eggs. Both have hatched, but both have come out not being able to walk. All of my other chicks have been very healthy and happy. Does anyone know what it could be?

Could be a number of things. Anything from genetics to taking too long to hatch to incubator problems.

I'm thinking genetics. The eggs are all collected at the same time and hatch around the same time. It's such a shame, and heartbreaking to see the chicks like that. This is such an awesome breed. Thanks for the reply.

No clue, but likely. They do produce offspring w/ other ducks????

muscovies are ducks but not derived from a mallard duck like all the other breeds. that's why their offspring is infertile. it is like crossing horses and donkeys - you get mules.

before I got muscovies I had the same amount of flies thanks to my chickens. but my muscovies eat anything that dares to fly in their run!

give them some vitamins in water. I know a person who had the same problem with 5 chicks. 4 of them got well with vitamins and never had any problem after that. only 1 had genetic problem, probably too much interbreeding.

One of my neighbours had these hybrids. Zhey were so beautiful and big, but he couldn't breed them, girls never started laying eggs. He had this cross in few clutches to be sure that he gets some girls, but again, they never started laying

When chick hatches with curly toes, is that also close inbreeding? I ask this because this year we got some with curly toes, but their father was different line from hens.
