I'm glad I stayed home most of the morning. About 30 minutes after the boys were let out in their new paddock, I was back inside with my coffee, and I heard Snape's crow coming from what was now the WRONG part of the property. Sure enough, when I headed out, Tank and Apoc were in their new paddock, but Snape had gotten out and was pacing the outside of the NN paddock fence, with the girls seemingly very happy to see him (they were very nervous this AM with no male protection). Still not sure how he got out, but he must have been very determined to get back to his girls.
So, given that the injury yesterday was almost the only real time I've seen him behave like that (vs. Tank the randy one), and thinking it may have happened due to Tank's presence, I decided to let Snape back in with the girls on his own (as if I could keep him out!). Of course, this involved about 30 minutes of slow chase and ultimately, a fishing net, but once he was back in, both he and the girls were happier. And he was a gentleman - some dancing, but when the girls weren't interested, he didn't push it further. And Tank and Apoc were calmly browsing in their new area. All was well...
Until 5pm. What on earth is it about the evening that turns them into monsters? Tank escaped and started wandering near the legbar pen (really upsetting Dumbledore) - had to lock him and Apoc up early. Then I sat and watched the NNs - and sure enough - Snape started being a real jerk again. It's almost like it's last call in a bar and he's desperate to score with ANYONE at any cost.
So he got chased off by me a few times before I managed to corner him and pick him up. Then he sat in my lap in what was essentially a firm but loving papoose hold - I made it clear, in a gentle but firm way, that I was bigger than him, I was boss, and I was always going to win, so he'd better just settle down (I've been through this with cats at medication time. It works well.). He got it pretty quick. So he very calmly sat in my lap in "time out" papoose hug for the rest of the evening until the girls began putting themselves to bed and he started drowsing off in my arms - then I put him to bed.
WHAT a pain!!!! I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with these boys - short of sticking Snape in a dog crate for a couple days and slapping together another structure. I think until I can get him back out of of the flock I'll just do the evening time out thing. Geez...
