Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Just curious about why people differentiate between protein sources. If feed contains all the nutrients to support life and bodily functions, what difference does it make where the nutrient came from as far as plant or animal? Isn't protein, protein?:idunno
That's what vegetarians try to make folks believe.
Just had to show off this photo. My beautiful turken in among the not so naked! :D
Yes, isn't she the most beautiful? Cinderella and her ugly step sisters! Ha ha.

In a word, no. It really isn't that simple. I've spent the past 20+ years studying nutrition and the simple fact is that 1 gram of plant protein does not equal 1 gram of animal protein, just as 1 calorie of processed sugar does not equate to 1 calorie of green leafy vegetable. "Protein" is a simplified term used to describe a configuration of amino acids. Animal proteins are "complete" proteins, meaning they contain the full spectrum of essential and non-essential amino acids. All plant proteins are "incomplete" proteins in that they either do not contain that full spectrum of amino acids and/or they contain them in a format that is difficult or even impossible for the body to digest or absorb. One of the biggest con jobs of our era centers on the soybean, touted by our mechanized food industry as the ultimate protein source. It's a lie. Soy is actually very difficult for our bodies to digest, and actually has negative health effects in non-fermented form for everyone and especially for men...BUT, our subsidized corrupt food industry will not allow this information to become mainstream lest people *ghasp* decide to consume animal protein instead...or maybe refuse to consume animals that consume (often genetically modified) soy-based feed.

Now...as it pertains to chickens in particular rather than humans, yes, chickens are omnivores meaning they evolved to be very adept at deriving nutrition from a multitude of sources. But in their most natural state they foraged freely on the plants, seeds, insects, lizards, mice, etc. that grew naturally within their environment rather being fed what humans decided was most economical and convenient to feed them. The soybean didn't even exist in most parts of the world during the chicken's evolution and they really didn't evolve to subsist on so much plant protein except in seasonal periods when food shortages of one sort or another occurred naturally and for short periods of time, such as in winter. Just as with us humans, proper nutrition, meaning what we evolved to eat, is expensive....especially when you're talking animal protein.

But chickens only rarely catch mice, and certainly never fish, pigs or cows. So why would it benefit them to eat them, especially as an every day part of their diet?
