A few more pictures.

Two white pullets from Cinnamon NN rooster over a White NN hen. He cleaned up the black spots that this line is carrying. One of these pullets doesn't have any black and the other you have to look very very close to see a very faint spot in her feathers.

This little pullet is from the Cinnamon NN rooster out of my Blue Red NN hen. The second shot above show the coloring on her bowtie ( what littke she has) it also runs down into some of the breast feathers. Looks like his silver changed the red color of the mom to silver on this pullet. Blue Silver Birchen, would that be the right color to call it ? @Kev

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these girls! I still haven't gotten around to breeding specifically to try to get white NNs and now I really want to. As soon as the doctor removes my stitches I can get back to butchering extra cockerels, etc. and clearing up room to maybe focus on this part of my breeding program.

Still loving how my latest NN hatch, now 6 weeks old. I've got one definite breeder cockerel in the group to use in my meat program.

Simon, my preferred breeder = 24.02 ounces


Willow: 19.93 ounces, compact body and slower to feather pullet.


Peta (cockerel) 22.62 ounces; feathered shanks and very pretty.


Gypsy: NN/Biel pullet = 17.35 ounces, and part of my Biel "improvement" program.


Little Rue, the chick that was badly pecked, leaving no flesh on the back of her head and neck, has been recovering strong since I moved her isolated pen out to the chicken cabin where she can see and hear other chickens. She's smaller than the others for having to devote so much energy to healing, but is growing quickly, increasing her size by 112% since week 4 weigh-in. So far she's showing no signs of displaying any color other than black. Weight = 11.01 ounces


Finnig (cockerel) also has feathered shanks and is showing red and buff in his black & white barring = 21.41 ounces. I may include him in my capon program.


As usual I have more boys than girls. I need to have a serious talk with my layers...maybe bribe them into giving me girls.

@Kassaundra, your chickens made me love barring, but only with mottled mixed in. I love how Q-tip looked and how R-tip looks, they are great, but do you have a rooster that has similar color? I think you said you were going to keep him.

Oh and one other thing, those barred, weird combed chicks, athough I am not really a fan of their color, have awsome body tipe, skin and leg color and com shape. Would love to see them in white.

my pecked girl grew big, around 3 kg. it took some time but luckily she likes to eat, lol.

Not sure.. what color were Rue's parents?

She is pretty black, I would say safe to expect some black hens, some with a small bit of color. I cannot tell if there would be any females with "lacing"(the hen version of highly colored roo).

Cockerels most likely would be as colored as Pepper or less.

It's because I don't know which kind of 'black' both of them have- birchen or extended black. Rue does have the extra genes that help reduce coloring on both kind of blacks that is why I am not really saying much about the possibility of even more colored birds from them.

Rue would be really good for all-white project though, by breeding with the white rocks.

p.s. glad Rue is recovering! and take care of yourself.. hope you get lots of help from the housemates next couple weeks.
