Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Oh, and Puppy passed a huge piece of latex glove overnight/this morning. I have no idea how she got ahold of it - but I kept looking at it, like "Why on earth would you eat that?!"

I wish I had broodies. almost all of my chickens have been incubator hatched and it seems they will never get broody. I expected my broody hatched brahma to get broody but she is 12 months old and shows no interest in broodiness.

All these were hatched in the incubator. I rarely seen a NN go broody. I've had two in the past a few years ago that tried the broody business and now these 3.

Most of my birds were incubator hatched as well...including all of my broodies. My first flock of NNs originally had two broodies, both of which had Cochin blood mixed in with them so I wasn't really surprised. Since I didn't breed from them I was rather shocked when my second flock of NNs produced not one, not two, but THREE broody pullets. And now my most reliable, horrific looking hen from my first flock has turned broody...probably as a survival mechanism since she's gone through two molts and a whole lot of attention from the roosters without every stopping in her rate of laying and is now nearly completely devoid of feathers. Seriously, this precious girl looks like she lost a fight with a tornado. I'm actually allowing her to remain broody but remove her a few times per day so she'll eat...all so she can grow some feathers. They're slowly coming in...very slowly. If it weren't so dang hot here I'd have to make clothes for the poor dear.

Have you ever seen them around styrofoam? It's not pretty. Apparently they think it's popcorn.

i heard good things about this feed at tractor supply called feather fixer. here its almost the price of my organic non-gmo or soy feed.

I used it once but actually got better results from just adding high-protein feed to their regular feed. Maybe I didn't use the Feather Fixer long enough though. I go through feed pretty darn quickly around here.
