Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Thanks, I'm still somewhat surprised though, that they;re not heavier since they are half CX... well they were picked up as CX from feed store however they didn't grow at monster speeds, so maybe they are one of those slo gro broilers. They did eventually get huge just not at 8 wks.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll be crossing my best NNs with some of @lpatelski birds that I've hatched out (and will hatch out in the future) and now I have a better idea of what to expect.

Totally looking forward to your crosses. my latest interest are looking at results of crosses with cx, slo gro broilers and big birds like Linda's birds. Be great to compare with other's experiences.

are your birds ready to breed yet....?

The 'paint' pullet behind white NN just laid her first egg.. GREEN! I am pretty happy, trying to get colored egger back up in numbers. Of course she is going to be bred with a NN, either to the speckly cockerel or the half freedom ranger roo.

Ooo! What breed is she?

Cross of a line of NN I've had for many generations and a slo gro broiler. Trying for faster growing/heavier NN.

but being a genetics geek I simply cannot resist throwing other things in like blue eggshell gene...

LOL! I wish! They just turned 6 weeks. Tubs, my little cockerel, weighed in at a whopping 3.32 lbs, followed closely by Clara at 3.02 lbs. My pure DC (pullet?) came in at 1.59 lbs and my White Rock/Biel mix came in at 1.53 lbs. This hatch is just blowing away all of the others, even my Biel/WR mix.

Hard for me to visualize their 'sizes' but those weights are pretty good! Probably end up heavier than my whites at 13ish weeks?

I've seen but did not pay attention to weight scale discussions.. could I be so bad and ask about a recommendation or two for weighing chicks at say, 4, 8, 12 weeks of age? My birds are not handled at all so I imagine they aren't gonna stand and pose on the scale either... been wondering how to get them to stay on long enough for a weight?

p.s. also been missing Fire Ant Farm's posts.. always so enjoyable reading her postings. Hope she's allright.

I handle my birds quite a lot, so that's why they're usually pretty accepting during weigh-in. Sorry.

I've been missing @Fire Ant Farm too.

@chickengr

Here are the pictures:

Mom:

If you need better pictures let me know. She is going through a molt right now.

Baby:

Sorry it took me so long. I totally forgot!

She is 5 months old. No eggs, but I think she is getting close.

thanks. I have a pullet that looks identical. I bought her so I don't know her origins. I will be glad to get more birds like that.

btw, she lays pinkish eggs and I put her with my araucana roo. I hope to get from them grey eggers Nn's.

Pulled 30 out of the incubator @ 9:40 last night. Still have a few that are trying to hatch.

Still getting a few fully feathered babies though. I guess 3 out of 30 isn't a bad percentage relate though, only 10%.

Guess my Golden Partridge fellow will be leaving Daturdah. All 12 of the eggs I set from his run were not fertile. Also leaving will be my Aloha rooster Mr. Bo Spangles. I have a really good son from the Easter hatch that us Na ( big bow tie), coming into breeding age now, and I have four daughters plus what pullets I get from this hatch to carry on for him.

I still have a hen that is producing well from the Aloha stock. Even though she is solid red ( closer to orange) she is producing some mottled chicks with the right roosters. She was in with Mr. Bo Spangkes with this hatch do I'll see if they get spotty chicks.
