Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Thanks. I had a deep convo w/ myself about my true chicken love and lack of ability to do multiple "projects" so what was absolutely most important to me and kept coming back to fm. And really wanting to see if I can get the naked meat bird project off the ground so that is what I've settled on.

Very disciplined! Me? I keep hearing the song lyrics in my head...."I want it all....I want it all....I want it ALL...and I want it now!". LOL!

Living in town puts a real emphasis on keeping it simple. I don't want to give any cause for complaint about the number of birds to bring unwanted attention and problems.

and a super-literal raised bed garden on top of this elevated coop, right?

Actually, I do have plans for an adorable coop with a garden bed on top. I've considered building it in my (expanded) garden area and housing it with non-flying chickens like Silkies to help control the weeds and bugs. They could roam freely and the crops would grow safely above them.

@Kev

Is there a Splash in Burch/Blue Birchen?

Just got to thinking about that.

Another question:
TheRed Wing Black rooster and the Blue Birchen hen bred together= Rigid/red Birchen pullets and Silver Cockerels?

Yes to splash. If there is blue, splash is possible.

example a splashed red duckwing looks very close to red pyle. Splashed blue laced red wyandottes almost look like white laced reds and so on. They just won;t be "splashed all over" like splash on a solid black chicken because blue works primarily on the black pigments and leaves the red/gold mostly alone. Splash birchen can end up looking like a typical splash or rather light colored.

as for the pairing- yeah red birchen pullets and cockerels will be half silver and gold, they can look Golden on the colored areas or yellowish or white.. won't really know until the cockerels feather out.

Okay thanks for your help.

That's about what I thought on the cockerels. I do have the ability though to get better Birchen cockerels. Just culled a bunch from this last hatch.
