Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Have you incubated before or do you have a new/different incubator this time around? Do you have a calibrated thermometer? (Your temperature should be steady inside - it shouldn't drop unless something's wrong). What humidity did you run?

Check out the info and links in the first (or maybe it's the second) post on this thread - lots of info, INCLUDING what to do if nothing has hatched yet:

I always learn the lessons hard way... gemini is my star, no patience by nature, lol.

That thread has lots of VERY good info on how to calibrate thermometers and hygrometers, the use of stones as heat sinks in incubators that have a lot of variation in temp, how to track weight loss or air cell size in eggs, etc., etc. I'd recommend reading as much of it as you can and then when you next set eggs, pop in and post on the thread to ask any questions. It's a very busy thread, and while we are chatty, it means there's almost always someone on who can help or who can tag someone to help.

I should add, this includes Benny, who's in Israel and who would likely be on BYC when you're on and up. He knows what he's doing and could help if something came up as well. @Akrnaf2

thanks. I already learned a few things from benny.

I will try a few eggs with the heat lamp - the old balkanian way when there were no incubators. but the weather is bad at the moment, I will wait till it gets warmer. and I do hope I will have some broodies soon.

I unplugged the bator. about an hour lator I went to throw the eggs and I heard chirping again. I plugged it again and put a heat lamp to warm it quickly and put more water. then I saw a little crack. I called a friend who told me to help the chick so I made a hole around it's beak. it is in the bator now chirping from time to time but I don't see it is trying to crack the shell. more work for me and I am scared to death!

btw, I hope it is Nn (Nn/araucana cross)! the chirping is a happy one, not complaining one so I have a hope. and with low temperature I do believe that only a girl could make it. any opinion?

I had to help it get out. hard shell, wrapped in membrane, low temperature and the egg was laid on 31/12!

I am positive it is a girl! I don't think a male would survive all this. and she is trying hard to get up!

Wow! What a success story - I've never been so glad to be wrong!
