Naked Neck/Turken Thread

They're just now begging to hatch. Still wet but there are 8 out so far.

Speaking of breeding difficulties, I thought I might be facing a similar situation with a my 3/4 Dark CornishX1/4 CX cockerel but he has managed to control his bulk and cut the mustard with three or four Chantecler hens (I witnessed the events). Prior to seeing these hopeful antics, I had considered eating him or.....going with AI.

I looked into it on some Indian (India) youtube vids and realized I have almost everything laying around the house that's needed....except someone to help by hold the hen being AI'd.

I may do it on a few pairs simply for the experience.

Link to those videos please? AI comes up(heh) from time to time so there is an interest in it. Never hurts to gain experience.

I've noticed some roosters are able to breed all sizes n shapes while others can only do a narrow range. Yesterday a big heavy tall nn cx roo successfully bred the short leg dwarf pullets- very happy about that as was not sure if he would be able to due to extreme size difference.

The information about AI is about half way through the video...India is having some of the same issues with CX broilers as many folks in the US...taste/greasy. etc. Now that I think about it, there are two versions of this, one is in some Indian dialect and the other is generally English. If this one is the first, you can look around a bit for the other. It's pretty well demonstrated to the point that words really aren't required.

There is a bit more to it, for those who REALLY want to get into it, as I found out after a bit more investigation but with just a bit of practice, anyone could do it... It's not nearly so technical or dangerous like caponization...just making sure the hen is receptive and placing the delivery device in the correct part of the butt.

I hope everyone who watches gets something out of it.

Thanks, didnt catch if they really showed how to collect semen.. that seems to be the hardest part. Others tell me they could not get any out of the rooster.

They show shooting the semen deep into the hen.... honestly don't think that;s necessary at all. A lot of the hens would evert from their cloacas upon being grabbed(just like they do in the video), held and lifted their tails so they would remain squatting and exposing their bits then squirted it onto the exposed parts and every time they automatically took it up into their body. It's how they mate naturally anyways. Very easy.

Man, absolutely love the tall oriental type chickens in that video!

Found a video.. how he collects is similar to what I use.. however the dance he did with the hen was unnecessary- she was completely ready as soon as he had her- he could have set it on the bench immediately and lifted her tail to deposit it. But it shows how the vent automatically takes it up- by the time he had her flipped over she was no longer everted and still she took it up.

@Kev ...I'm still looking for the other two vids that show the whole business in detail. I agree, it doesn't require so much penetration.

Both birds must be manipulated...by stroking their bodies and working them up. Once a cock bird has been conditioned, he delivers quite a load of sperm. Both cock and hen should be housed separately I think...but for certain the cock must. Not really sure if the hen can be kept with other hens or not but before I try this, I'll know a bunch more than I do now.
